Organizing sequences and MP3's

What i would like to know is how you organize your sequences and mp3's on your computer? Do you keep the sequence and corrisponding mp3 in the same folder named after the sequence or do you seperate them from each other in a general audio and a sequence folder? Would like to get mine organized but not sure what the best way would be. Thank you for any help you may provide..

I create a folder on each of my computers (my show computer is not the same machine i actually sequence on)

i call the folder C:LORData inside that are two more folders named Audio and Sequences

when I am finished with a sequence I use SAVE AS and title it with the year in front. e.g. 2010_MusicBoxDancer

I always keep my old sequences from year to year. that way I can go back and look at what I have done in the past.

to move files between the two machines, i use a USB thumb drive. as long as you keep the drive paths the same between the two machines, you do not need to do any editing re: media file location or anything.

hope this helps!

For simplicity, I keep mine in the default directories that LOR created when it was installed. That way the SSB (which I use to initially create a show) and the show player have no trouble finding the sequence files and audio files. I do, however, create a separate folder for each previous year's sequences so it's easier for me to find things later.

Ditto waht George said. You'll end up with dozens of them but normally they will be in alphabetical order.

I keep folders within my sequence folder with all my sequences sorted by year. All sequences I'm using are in the main sequence folder.

I have started to make a few subfolders in the audio folder. I put all my announcements and voiceovers in one.

I store everything on D:LOR.

All music goes in the (I think) D:LORAudio.

In the Sequence folder I have sub folders called D:LOR2009Christmas and D:LOR2010Christmas and now D:LOR2011Christmas

My computers are networked so I can move everything to my show computer by coping the D:LOR folder

Plus every once in a while I back up to CD/File Server.

Thanks Brian - you described it better than I did.

I also have subfolders in the audio folder for announcements. I might run a couple dozen announcements during the course of the season and since I seem to never throw anything away it helps keep the clutter down a little.

Things have started to get a little unorganized and confusing. So far from what you guys have told me I think I will use some info from each of you. I have my computers networked and use different ones at different times. I think I will put a folder on each one at the same address (C:/LOR). I also think it would make it easier if I keep each sequence along with it's audio in seperate folders. Also i was thinking folders labeled "Ideas" "Work in Progress (WIP)" and "Completed". Any suggestions on the tree below would be appreciated.

C:/LOR_Data

C:/LOR_Data/Ideas

C:/LOR_Data/Ideas/Idea-1.MP3

C:/LOR_Data/Ideas/Idea-2.MP3

C:/LOR_Data/WIP

C:/LOR_Data/WIP/NotFinishedSong1.lms

C:/LOR_Data/WIP/NotFinishedSong1.mp3

C:/LOR_Data/WIP/NotFinishedSong2.lms

C:/LOR_Data/WIP/NotFinishedSong2.mp3

C:/LOR_Data/Finished

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Christmas

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Christmas/JingleBells

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Christmas/JingleBells/JingleBells.lms

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Christmas/JingleBells/JingleBells.mp3

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Christmas/SilentNight

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Christmas/SilentNight/SilentNight.lms

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Christmas/SilentNight/SilentNight.mp3

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Holloween

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/4thOfJuly

C:/LOR_Data/Finished/Misc.

For me, it's got too many places to put something and then forget where I put it. But if it works for you, that's all that matters.
