DIY vs Showtime... what's the difference

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Setting my xmas display to music is something I've wanted to do for a long time, and I've finally made the decision to implement it.

Looking through the LOR site, I see two possible avenues to take... the Showtime 16ch starter package (ST-SP-16) for $377 or the PC-CTB16PC-COMPLETE and the Basic-Plus software for $267.

So what's the difference between the two packages? From what I can tell, the only thing I have to do is put together the strain relief and plug the wires in... Is that the only difference?

Thanks for the help, and I'm excited to finally be a part of the LOR culture :D

Welcome to the club.

The PC controller has a few less functions than a 16.

Primarily, you can upgrade your 16 to 40 amps if you replace the power supply cords and fuse.

The PC controller will not upgrade unless you also switch out the housing.

The 16 can run a non-musical show. The PC can not.

You can switch Controller names on the 16 with a knob. The PC requires a computer.

The 16 is now geared more toward the professional and commercial display, the PC is geared for residential.

I have both and would only buy a 16 if it cost less than a PC.

You can buy the PC and do all you need it to do.

Must be something with Jan 3rd! One year ago today I began the LOR craze!

The PC is plenty powerful enough. I began with 1 box and quickly addded two more, will add 3 more this year. 96CH. Then I'll quit.................Yeah right...............

Its a lot of fun, certainly hope you enjoy. I know I did
