Chris B Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I know its probably a little early yet but wondering if there has been any more information on the new gen 2 controllers lor is going to be releasing. Pics, pricing, availability...? Thanks Chris
Don Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 There has been no further information released on the Gen2 controllers.
Tim Fischer Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 My question about all his is how the old-style CTB-08 will fit into the new mix. I still have 8 of these puppies and I'd rather not have to replace them all. I already can't use a lot of the new features like fading shimmers, etc. because of these.
ItsMeBobO Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Not sure I understand your concern Tim. Are you saying a gen 2 feature cant be used if you have an older controller?
Alan C Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I believe the original ctb-08 controllers cannot be "flashed" with new firmware from the pc like the current range of 16-channel controllers.Regards,Alan.
-klb- Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 The oldest ones get firmware updates with new chips. Even for the ones that can be flashed, I think Dan indicated that the 4.30 feature set would take nearly all the available space, just to implement the fading shimmer and twinkle. I don't know if that ever actually happened. So if they are out of space, I don't see that they will be able to implement custom dimming curves, or any other gen2 features. But I expect they will maintain backwards compatibility, even if they have to support them on a different network than the gen2 controllers.I believe Dan indicated that some of the Gen2 features would be supported in new firmware on the ctb16D/1602w and ctb16PC. They may not yet know exactly how many of the gen2 features will be supported.
Tim Fischer Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Dan indicated at one time that athe fading shimmer/twinkle would be added to the CTB-08's (and they would lose their very basic stand-alone capability which I never use) but that hasn't happened. If there was a way to create a small daughtercard that plugged into the place where the socketed (non-upgradable) PIC goes and move it into the next generation (with future flashability), I'd pay $40-$50 per controller for the privilege. It would be much simpler (and cheaper) than trying to sell off the cards and buy CTB-16D's to replace them...
Alan C Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Depending on how it is coded, it may be possible to trade some or all of the ctb16d memory that currently supports the standalone sequence for the new "gen 2" features.Regards,Alan.
Ponddude Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 The major improvement in the Gen 2 cards is going to be the ability to use lighting curves. The major flaw with the Lynx equipment, among other things, is you can only use 4 curves per controller. There was discussion here before that the lighting curves would be installed in the sequence and sent with the data stream, which is an amazing idea and something that I am hoping LOR runs with. This will give you the ability to use 16 lighting curves instead of 4. You would than have the ability to use 16 different types of lighting strands per controller that are all fading beautifully!
