To create the tool, go to the "Tools" menu, then "Fade Tool Settings" (there's also a toolbar button for this). It will open up a screen that looks like this:

fadesettings.png

In that picture, the "Fade Down" tool is set to 100% - 0%, and the "Fade Up" tool is set to 50% - 75%.

If you want to use values other than 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%, click on the "Edit" button (to the right), which will allow you to select the numbers in the various options.

Once you've set the intensities you want, just click on the "Fade Up" tool, and whenever you use it from then on, it will use those intensities (until you change the intensities again using the Fade Tool Settings dialog).

Once you use the tool, it will automatically be put onto your "Recent Tools" list. Once it's there, you can switch to it just by clicking on it in that list, rather than going through the Fade Tool Settings dialog again.

It might eventually be pushed off of the Recent Tools list by other tools that you use, so if you want to save it, right-click on its entry in the Recent Tools list, and select "Save Tool" from the popup menu that will open. At that point, it will be added to the Saved Tools list.
