How to determine if a radio band is vacant in your area

You can go to this website and enter your zip code. It will assist in determining what radio frequencies might be available. As always you should double check the station your self.

As George points out below, it is a starting point. You should do your due diligence in making sure you never use a frequency that is in use.

Be advised, however, that the radio-tracker website is notoriously incorrect and while it might serve as a starting point it should NEVER be your only method of finding a frequency. It's ALWAYS necessary to check out your desired frequency by driving around in your car, perferably at night. Ideally, you want a frequency that's clear one click up and down from your desired setting.
