morganinaboat
Has any one got any photos of their set up inside with the computer and fm transmitter & speakers? Been reading a lot of posts but just can't get my brain around how best to set this up. Need to use some sort of amp to boost the sound signal as coming out from the laptop speaker jack is not powerful enough to drive decent sound. Can i just buy some sort of amp and feed the line from the headphone jack in to the amp and then out to the stereo/speakers and to the fm transmitter? Love to see some shots of y'all's set up and recommendations.
Brian Mitchell
I use a Y cord to split the sound from my computer to the transmitter and computer speakers. My outside speakers go to my stereo where I simply tune in the radio broadcast. jimswinder
Don't have a picture, but do the same as Brian...use two Y cords (one for the left channel and one for the right)..one set goes directly to the FM transmitter (don't think you really want to increase that signal with an amp), the other set goes to my amp for the outdoor speakers. If you are having a problem hearing the sound from your FM Transmitter, it is probably your transmitter...by chance is it a Whole House Transmitter?? Jim Saul
I have a Y cord from the dollar store. One side goes to the powered speakers, the other side goes to the FM transmitter. The speakers would need to be powered, or you need an amplifier, the power coming out of the headphone jack is not enough to power a full sized speaker. Are you trying to get audio out at the computer or into the yard or at the laptop? If you want it at your computer, a small $10 pair of speakers will work perfect. If you want it for the yard, I'd suggest a radio, since you have the FM transmitting, but there are outdoor powered speakers ranging from $20 - hundreds. morganinaboat
I have got a little "Y" splitter plugged in to the headphone jack of the laptop. One line to the fm transmitter (which is some $75 chinese thing my wife bought) and the other line goes in to an adapter cord receiving the 1/8th inch jack and ending with a red/white RCA style plug that goes in to the "AUX" input for the stereo I bought at a pawn shop. Stereo is strong enough but I think the splitter is diluting the strength of the sound signal as it comes out. Maybe its in my head.:shock:When the FM X-mitter is plugged in, I ended up having to turn the volume up on the stereo to MAX in order to have a decent level sound through the speakers. If you look at the tip of the plug, mono has 1 black ring around it, stereo has 2 black rings.I had a similar problem, turned out to be a bad extension (adapter cord). If I wiggled it at the connection it would work ok. So, I bought a new one and have had no problems since. Also, if you open up the volume controls (double click the little speaker by your clock), be sure that the wave volume is turned up at least 3/4.MikeH
