LOR 16PC not recognized after firmware update

Last night I flashed the firmware on one of my 16PC's. Now the Hardware utility can't find the controller and the red LED is off, not flashing or steady, but off. The controller is still getting power because I can plug a string of lights in and they illuminate.

I've tried re-flashing the firmware and resetting the controller but nothing works b/c the Hardware utility doesn't recognize the controller.

Any suggestions?

What version firmware was on the controller originally?

What version firmware did you flash it to?

LED on the controller doesn't blink nor is it steady?

But as soon as you plug a string of lights in to the controller they immediately come on? All by themselves?

Have you tried a different Cat5 cable?

What version firmware was on the controller originally? 4.2

What version firmware did you flash it to? 4.4

LED on the controller doesn't blink nor is it steady? No light at all

But as soon as you plug a string of lights in to the controller they immediately come on? All by themselves? Yep. Not every channel works but the first 3 on each side do.

Have you tried a different Cat5 cable? It works for all five other controllers.

Don't know where you got a separate release of the 4.40 firmware, but if your controller had 4.2, then 4.32 would be the most recent for that board.

Sometime in 2009 and later, due to a microprocessor chip change during the Mfg process, a special firmware ver 4.40 was necessary to work with that particular microprocessor chip.

If your board did not have this particular microprocessor, then of course the board won't work, as the firmware is wrong

Yor might want to call LOR Tech Support tomorrow.

I remember that you can have the hardware utility launched and everything connected then power the board. Should see it go into the boot loader. At that point you can push out the correct version of firmware.

But have everything ready to go when you power up the controller.

I didn't know that Chuck. Thanks

I may have been wrong, it probably was 4.32. I'll try Chuck's suggestion next.

Thanks guys!

I have read Dan mention on more than one occasion. But with the search engine for the forums to try and find it would be difficult. I am thinking that the last time I read it was about a month to 6 weeks ago.

I think I'll just see if I can get Tech Support tomorrow and see if they can walk me through a solution.

Fortunately, this one is a spare right now. I panicked this morning because I thought I was actually short a controller. After adding everything up, I realized that this one can actually be a spare.

I did not try to upgrade firmware on any other controllers. This was the first one.

That recent? Well no wonder I don't remember! At my age, I can't remember what I had for breakfast, or if I had breakfast!

Now the details of a converstion, or a particular item of clothing (or whatever) I owned 20 years ago, I'm on it!

Haven't had time to mess with it. I'll update when I know more.
