Hello I have 2 LOR160xW light controllers.

Do I ever need to get new firmware?

Have to? As the old joke goes, you don't have to *do* anything.

That said, there has been one occasion where new firmware was required if you wanted to use new features of the software. If you bought the controllers this year (or even later in the year last year, if memory serves) it should have the newer firmware on there.

my 2 LOR160xW are about 3 years old.

I do want to use the new features of the software.

How do I down load the new firmware and how do I find the right on for my Controllers?

Thanks
Brad

Head over to the Light-O-Rama support page, and navigate to the Firmware Download section. (Or, http://lightorama.com/Firmware.html )

Select the firmware that applies to the controller that you have. Follow the instructions on the screen.

I personally recommend only have one controller at a time connected when upgrading firmware.

Open the Hardware Editor (and make sure your controller is attached) and look at the bottom for the "Firmware" button. The directions will be there on the screen.

Look for "Light Controllers CTB16D/LOR16xx Series" (Near the bottom.)

Choose the correct firmware, based on your controller type/color.

When you open the Hardware Editor with the controller powered on and connected, click the "Refresh" button near the top middle of the page. (If you only have one controller connected, you might click the "Change" button under "Max Unit ID" and lower that down some. Otherwise, it will take a very long time to search.)

When it finds the unit, it will tell you what version of firmware you have installed.

I bought my first 3 units early last year (2009) - I bought 2 more units this year which I am sure will have the most up to date firmware. If the units from last near have an older firmware version will it cause a conflict in the units?

No it will not cause a conflict. Normally version 4.32 and ver 4.0 will play together just fine.

The only difference is 4.0 is designed to work with a different chip on the newer boards then the older boards had
