CTB16PC Channles 9-12 Not Working

HI Guys,

Just finished building my 3rd CTB19PC kit. First 2 units are working fine, but channels 9-12 not working on third one, all other channels are fine. Tried a reset, didn't help. Ran through the troubleshooting guide, all looks ok. Can't see any obvious solder bridges/shorts, and solder joints look good.

I'm a tech, so a schematic would really help, or any other advice would be appreciated.

How about a re-loading the firmware, would that be advisable at this point?

Pretty sure I found the problem.

Reading through the LORwiki, the exact same issue was noted. Turns out I have R1 and R18 in the wrong positions....... whoops!!!

I'll swap those around tomorrow when I get to work, give it another test tomorrow night and let you all know how I made out.

Thanks,

Mark

That would prevent channels 9 to 12 from working.

Alan.

Yup.

And so much for being a well-intentioned electronics tech, huh? lololololol :P

A little embarrassing to say the least. But, alas, I can get back to the other preparation tasks for this year's display!!! :D

As promised, I'm back with an update........

Swapped the resistor networks to their correct positions (noob mistake, very embarrassing ). Re-tested it tonight and all is working now. :D

Lesson learned: Don't assume anything. There are 5 resistor networks in the kit, 4 of one value, 1 is a different value. They look identical (other than the value printed on the side of them..... lol). You would think after building 3 of these so far I would have known that. I think I was just a tad over-confident building the 3rd one and didn't pay close enough attention.

Now, off to do some sequencing!!!

Cheers,

Mark

The resistor packages are also different configurations. One of them has a "common" terminal with several equal value resistors off it, the other is individual resistors.

Alan.

Wow. I wish my one channel not working was so easy to fix.... Been back and forth with Dan via e-mails today. Looks like I'm getting a different board sent out to me. Doesn't fill me with confidence of my board building skills if I killed one channel without even runing a show through it. And I got one more board to put together! good greef. Thought I looked over this board pretty closely, the next one I'll put under a microscope. Almost literally.

  • 2 weeks later...

After talking to Dan again. He suggested that I check all the components on that channel. I pulled the board out and decided to re-solder everything with a hotter iron than I had used before.

Just ran it through the HU and EVERYTHING works now. Yaaaaaa

Just finished soldering my next board up with the hotter iron too. Expecting no problems..
