Controllers on Lawn

Just wondering what everyone may be using for controllers that go on the lawn with nothing to mount them on?

I am adding 4 arches this year and plan on putting one controller between arch 1 and arch 2 and was contemplating on how I will mount it to something for both keeping it off the ground and for security purposes.

Security is mostly a delusion. Sink a 4x4 post and screw the enclosure directly to it is probably as secure as you're gonna get from amateur attempts. And it really doesn't matter what you do if a pro targets you. The easiest I've found is to drive in a 4' metal fence post and hang the controller from it if there's no other structure or tree nearby.

One of my controllers that I had in my yard was mounted to a pair of 1/2 inch electrical conduit poles driven into the ground a couple of feet and then I run a 1/8 inch cable through every thing in my yard and secure it to the house. It's not going to stop the pro's like George already mentioned, but the ones that just like to grab something and run can't do it.

I had an idea while I was reading some of your replies. I might try (for extra security) It doesnt help for mounting but with security.

Go to a pet store and get one of those cork screw ground stakes to use to chain a dog up in the yard and spin it into the ground (all the way) helps to use a large screwdriver or a small piece of rebar with the spinning. Then run a short cable or chain to the box and padlock it to the top of the screw post

With a chain on the screw post (especially a short one) it makes it near impossible to unscrew that post out of the ground due to the fact that the chain will twist around the post. And those things are near impossible to pull out of the ground if screwed all the way in.

Again... if someone really wants it they can just use a set of bolt cutters or something but this does help with the "grab and go". I posted a picture of one of these..

I really like the paintball sentry idea I saw posted. That asside - chain them down, paint them black. I also same someone cover them with Garland. ( I mean COVERED)

I dont have a big yard, so mine are actually under our front porch this year, but I'm sure the time will some when I just have to break down and place one under a mega tree. I have cameras, a dog, a wife that is usually home, and neighbors with REALLY BIG LOUD DOGS -( who bark at everything) so I'm pretty safe.

I wonder if you could hook a controller up to the wires that go to the lights on the top of the car and the spotlight. Then you could have them flash on and off at various times during your sequence.

Working for the fire department I always wanted to do a fire truck like this one in the video link below... I love the name they give to the video "Trying the Chief's Patience"

or better yet walk out of your house with a shot gun and fire a shot in the air my guess is you would have fifty of those babies in your driveway, just have to have the right music to be in time with the lights (if there are any kids reading this do not try this this is a joke).

Well, that would be a sure way to NOT have a car parked there next year!!!!

A lot of the new light bars are LED. I'd say a DC controller as most of it can be switched from 12v. You couldnt dim the strobes, but you could dim the spot.

I kinda like the idea of the old retro style one better - the one with the rotating reflector. You could actually dim that fixture if you seperated the motor wire from the lamp.

Whatever the case - your post was verry amusing.

I dont remember a darn thing about it, but I was actually born in Gainsville.

I take 3' long rebar and drive them into the ground in a x and put a clamp on the back of the box. It holds really well, but if they really want it they will get it. Most people have know clue what controls the lights. Last year no one knew the boxes were there. They were looking at the lights not the black boxes in the yard.
