dkoehler42
I've got two ShowTime PC CTB16PC boxes on different sides of the house. I've noticed since last year one of them cuts off randomly. This year the older and reliable box did it once. I have no idea what could be wrong, but LOS support didn't see anything wrong when I sent one back over the summer. Ideas? -klb-
How long to they go off? Do they do it during some of the peak lighting events? Do you know if the status light is being lost at the same time?
dkoehler42
They go off until I disable and enable shows. Doesn't seem to have any pattern.
-klb-
Which RS-485 adapter are you using? How are they cabled?
dkoehler42
I have the second version of the software running connected to the usb booster to a wireless signal. Each box is on a separate wireless signal.
dkoehler42
Also happens regardless if lights are in static display or in motion.
-klb-
Ah..The one that was working reliably, has anything changed between it and the EL at the computer? More stuff in the way? Different location?
dkoehler42
No sir. No changes.
-klb-
Next time one goes off, check the controller status light. I'm thinking you will have a blinking status light, showing that it is not receiving valid heartbeat signal from the show computer, through the EL.Also, the fact that disabling and enabling shows is all it takes to make it work again also makes me think it is an EL issue.Unfortunately, I don't use them enough to know if there is a firmware update that should be applied to them, or other troubleshooting steps to confirm the issue, and work towards a resolution. -klb-
Oh.. Are you using a wireless network in the house? Has any of the common use locations changed, Or the brand of hardware and/or the channel assigned?I think the EL, many cordless phones, and wireless networks are all fighting for spectrum in the 2.4Ghz unlicensed consumer band. And from what I recall, the EL can't self assign a different frequency. You might start by looking up the instructions, and trying some different frequencies, and see if that helps. dkoehler42
I do have some wireless phones in the house, one nearby. The wireless router's in the back and I now have a 2.4 and 5 ghz router. I'll check the signal next time it drops, but what is EL?

-klb-
Oh. And your interference might be from a neighbor's wireless system, or even wireless video..
dkoehler42
Odd, one neighbor's not an issue... I don't know about the other.
dkoehler42
I didn't know easy linker could change frequencies. I don't really mess w/ much of the settings. I know com 1 works and I can look for my boxes in there. The manual could do a much better job, and this is a PC tech saying that.
-klb-
IT support can be the worst of both worlds.. Hating users that don't read the manual, but at the same time, hating the manuals so much that you seldom refer to them yourself....:?
dkoehler42
Yeah, I'll admit to not reading the manual. Then you look through it and there's your answer, and you feel like an idiot.
