Radio Channel sign

Here's mine.

It's a 18" x 24" plexiglass sheet with a local signorama sign shop produced reverse vinyl lettered decal that I applied myself. The letters were clear so I could change it with colored gels with subsequent uses.

The box is scrap 2x4's with a groove to hold the plexi in place. Inside is an extra piece of lightrope (tail end sticking out before I covered it with black tape). I wasn't too thrilled with seeing the lightrope so I placed a diffuser (florescent ceiling fixture panel trype) that was cut down to fit between the lightrope and the plexi.

I plan on having it sit on a rock wall in the front yard connected to a channel so I can change from dim, bright, shimmer, twinkle to liven it up.

The original sign (on the left) has been in use for 3 years. This year I created a new one (on the right):

The old sign was made with red rice lights, but I couldn't find those, so I ordered a bunch of discrete LEDs. My neighbor drilled and hot glued them, and gave me this:

(As usual, click on the pictures to zoom.)

I soldered them together, added a resistor, rectifier, and power cord:

Covered with two coats of junction seal, here's the start:

The "TUNE RADIO TO" part is lit by a spotlight, and the red lights give it extra visibility, especially when they flash. I haven't heard of anybody having trouble seeing the sign, and this year we'll have one on each side of the street.

Here are some details on a sign I made... I have a vinyl cutter for my business so I was able to cut out the letters on transparent vinyl so it made it easy for me but you can find a sign shop to cut the vinyl for you if need be.

I was going to use www.buildasign.com, but I couldn't swallow $90 shipped with a stand. Instead I went with www.vistaprint.com.

$29 shipped for a coro 27x18 sign with the stand.

Did you just get a regular yard sign? Are you just gonna put a spot light on it or something???

Greg
