jmraider
If I am understanding everything correctly. The sequence is the actually running of your show with music. Animation refers to no light show, just your lights on static or other objects, with or without music. Is this correct? Now the bigger question can I put both sequence and animation on the MP3 director. I am planning to run my show every 30 minutes then running animation in between with music. Does this sound like a plan for a beginner...any advice.
Don
Correct. A musical sequence is one with music, and your lights programmed to flash with the music (as you have them programmed.)An animation sequence is the same thing, just with no audio.Using the MP3 Tab of the Hardware editor, you can combine animation and musical sequences into one show. (Disclaimer: I've not used the Simple Show Builder, so I can't comment on it.)While everyone does have a different opinion on what a show/display should look like, and how it should operate, it does sound as if you've thought out the plan very well. Animated can be just lights on (static), but you can also perform any effects during it.For what you describe wanting to do, it is not a no-brainer: you can program up your musical sequences and put them into a "show", then use the scheduler to run that show for a 30 minute period. That part is easy and straight forward. To play a static (animated) display with music playing in the background can be done, but will require a little bit of trickery.I don't know how to make LOR play music without it being a part of a (music) sequence. But, you can create a music sequence for a song without it having any real channels in it (i.e., the sequence would have a single channel, and set that channel's settings to not be an active LOR channel). You can then have a bunch of these "dummy" sequences put in a show to play the music, and have an animated sequence run in the background to run the static lights.Sound confusing? jjdurrant
So why would you do any animation only? Musical sequence is were it's at!!

Well, in my case, I use animation sequences before Thanksgiving. I also use them for about 15-20 minutes before the show comes on (around 6pm.) I also use them for about 15-20 minutes before the show comes on (around 6pm.)And I go the opposite direction using the dummy "music sequences" without turning on any lights for an hour before the show starts. I program up a random show ('shuffle' option from within the show editor). It basically consists of a "you're too early but you got great parking" announcement, the theme from jeopardy, some funny jingles and an occasional Christmas song I don't use in the show. I invariably get a few visitors parked before dark, I think mainly to see the display in the daylight. Might as well make them feel welcome! Some years, I will do an animation only in standalone mode for certain Memorial Day, Independence Day or Halloween display elements.Other times when using the Mini-Director, I have some "blank" - just silence - MP3 files and still just sequence as an animation. Also at some of the "Regional Gatherings", I have some of my display elements running on a looped animation just to show how the lights on that element function (such as an eight channel mega-tree star topper. In my opinion, "Animation Only" is a wonderful tool.
