teedee
Can you slow down the twinkle effect? When testing the LOR boxes you can adjust the speed so twinkle goes slowly. Is this possible when working on an animation sequence and if so, how do you do it. Thanks for the help.
Max-Paul
Unless I am grossly mistaken. the twinkle effect is hard programmed in the firmware. There was a problem about the first part of the year. Seems that the firmware was modified and no one was happy with how fast it was twinkling as I remembered it. Bob and crew rewrote that part of the code along with some other fixes. Thats the background to why I think this is hard programmed.
-klb-
Actually, I don't remember even the hardware utility having a way to adjust twinkle. I think there may be a way to change how fast the twinkle effect moves from channel to channel in the hardware utility, but I don't think the current twinkle effect is adjustable on the controller.Back when they added throttling to the animation window, it turned out that throttle settings impacted how the animation window drew the effect. I believe they have tried to make it more realistic...
George Simmons
I thought I heard some semi-official or higher talk a while back about adding some kind of speed control for twinkle and/or shimmer. Personally, I think that would be great! Send it to wishlist@lightorama.com and let them know you'd like it.
LENNY RUEL
Is it twinkle or shimmer that is actually just a fast on-off? I know one fades in and out. I have some Fleet Farm LED's I know I can't dim and want another option other than the normal on and off at 100%. ThanksLenny
George Simmons
Twinkle is the on/off effect... although the word "fast" is what part of this discussion is about. The good news with those Fleet Farm Sylvania mistakes is that at least they don't burst into flames or anything you could invite the neighbors over to witness or celebrate. They just get dimmer and dimmer and then they quit lighting altogether.
LENNY RUEL
Thanks George:I picked up 25 strings total of red and green C-7's three years ago now for the roof and 35 sets of C-6's for outlining the entire front yard before last year so I have PLENTY of them. Of course as I popped each bulb to get them in my order the sockets all got the dielectric grease treatment so I haven't had the problems with them others have had with the big box LEDs . But with everything going on controllers this year and having a few people on here tell me you can't dim them knew my options are limited. Hope to be able to replace with the good stuff in the near future, but also know that if I want to stay red/green it isn't going to be a matter of switching out bulbs from string to string anymore either, I'll need to go seprerate colors. Of course I could go retro on the C-7 at least and still be able to mix on the same string I guess..Lenny
-klb-
Shimmer is NOT an on/off effect. It is a rapid alternation between on, and about 50%... So don't use with LED's that don't dim reliably...
teedee
Thank you everyone for the answers. I guess what I wanted is not available so I'll use another option to get the effect. Thanks again for the quick information..
Anthony in Houston
Try creating the twinkle you need. You can do this by changing the intensity and duration the lights stay on. Set your intensity to 25% and then randomly select cells to turn on. Do this with other intensities until you have filled the range you want to twinkle.I have done this with some multi circuit C7 strings it looks good.Anthony
-klb-
One more way I have heard of doing it.Make a new sequence with some reasonably fine fixed grid, and about a screenful of channels. Grab a random rectangle. Toggle it. (what is inside should turn on, leaving rest off. Select another random rectangle, and toggle it. Ensure that your random selections partially overlap. Play with it a bit, and get a large enough area, and good enough randomness. Now you can copy, and past by cell into other grids, to speed it up, or slow it down.. Then paste into your sequence by time, so your timing marks don't change it up...
