encloser for my cards ?

I plan to mount my cards in between the floor joists in the basement and boxing them in for protection. My question is this: is it ok to mount the cards (AC and DC) on the wood with spacers or line the enclosure with metal first?

as speaking as a hobbiest....you can mount them directly to wood with no issues. I have many wooden boxes made for outside that I use. And I know of many other on here that do the same, but may not speak...:P

Each to there own. But if I am going to give advice then I have to say this. If I had my cards mounted to a wooden box outside and something happened to cause that wooden box to catch on fire, then more than likely I will go outside and roast some marshmallows and cry over a lost controller. If a card mounted to my floor joist was to cause the wood to catch on fire. Then I would go outside and roast marshmallows and cry about a lost house and all that is inside.

For a few bucks more. I would be mounting my cards inside a metal box first then to the floor joist. That's what I would be doing in my house. You do what you want to do. I just hope that you wont be roasting any marshmallows from your front yard.

I haven't boxed in the cards yet, setting up the DC card first. But I did install Aluminum sheet metal first and the card spaced a 1/2" out to prevent any Arky-Sparky situations to start a marshmallow roast.
