Ralph A Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I had a major computer problem and lost about 1/2 of my hard drive contents. I keep an external drive with all of my sequences backed up. However only one of the six sequences was not fully backed up. So I lost about 1/2 of what was completed. It would take me about 40 or so hours to re-sequence what was lost. Therefore, has anyone ever tried to recover a lost LMS file, and if so what recovery software did you use? I looked into several and did not see recovery for the LMS files. Yet this is an area I know nothing about.Any input and advise would be welcomed. Thanks Ralph
Don Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 With the important disclaimer that I've never used this product package:I would look into Recuva by Piriform. I use two of their products and have been very pleased with them.http://www.piriform.com/recuva
Randy Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Can you please be a little more specific about the hard drive issue and data loss that occurred? Sometimes people have luck just purchasing a replacement circuit board (controller) for the drive on eBay and you can bring the drive back to life that way.Or was data deleted or the disk accidentally reformatted? There are tools for that as well...I've even heard of people having luck freezing a drive if it has heat-related issues. Then it will work for a short time out of the freezer and the missing data can be copied off the drive...Randy
Terry Hurrle Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 That stinks with all the work we put into sequencing. I back all mine up as they are done on a portable HD and on a flash drive to transfer to my laptop. Only problem I am having is that the channels are always off by one when I transfer to the laptop.IE: C7 lights wind up being one channel higher and show up on my tapper grid or channel. It has happened with ever sequence I have done. I just do a quick copy paste and it is fixed. I would like to figure out why this is happening.Terry
TitusCarnathan Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 if it was lost there might be a chace to recover itdid you ever hear when you delete something it still is on the hard driveon your free space on your hard drive data is still there until over written so it still might be recoverable by a file undeleter google or ask.com for a file undeleter / file recover you might still be able to get it back just dont be adding data to your hd until you try this it just might be able to recover it
kzaas Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 What about the LMS.bak file, did you lose that too?
PaulXmas Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 How many people did another backup after reading this post?
Ralph A Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 Hey Guys,Thanks for all the help and input. I am currently trying all these suggestions. I had a total of six songs and five are all current with backups. The one I lost, Joy to the World, by Go Fish, I do have a back up about eight weeks back that is about 50% complete. So I did not lose the LMS.bak file kzaas.!! I really thought I had backed it up when I finished it. GUESS I WON'T BE MAKING THAT MISTAKE EVER AGAIN!!It is my fear that since the computer accidentally reformatted that the file has been re written but there is a small chance it is there if I can find it. I hope the force is strong with this one. Ha Ha! That's all I can do is laugh at this and be more careful in the future!!!!!Hope all is going well since we are all super busy right know. Good luck to you and your shows for 2010!!!!Ralph
