How Many Song Do You Play?

Recommended Posts

This is my first year with LOR. I was wondering how many songs you guys/gals played your first year.

So far I have 9 and working on the 10th. My wife is so sick of Christmas songs, she's going CRAZY. I've been working on this since February. I have 32 channels.

Thanks for any input.....

I had 6 songs my first year. But I don't just string them together and have them repeat over and over. I mix them up in 3 song shows and run a show every 15 minutes. with other music playing the shows.

Tell / ask your wife for an early extra Christmas gift. Then tell her you want a real nice pair of headphones. Bet you she will drag you out of the house and to the local electronics store that carry the nice headphones. ;)

The number of songs you have now is what some folks will stick with and have a 10 to 15 minute show like Brian said.

Other keep the songs under 2:40 minutes to keep the viewers attention.

I was like that when I 1st started out.

Last year I had 54 songs and this year it will be 64 songs + and I put 15 songs/shows on 1 SD card..........So I have 4 show...............5 this year.

One show last 1.5 to two hours. I do 5 songs and keep the lights all on for 15 minutes, then 5 songs and lights on for 15 minutes and so on.

Or I do 5 songs and leave the lights on for about 1 or 2 minutes when it is busy, and that way folks have time to take pictures, then do another 5 songs and so on.

Where I live (in a village of 800 people) this way of doing the show works for me.

Especially during extreme cold weather...............and no I will not turn the show off even in -51 temperatures.....................we enjoy it even if no one else does in the cold.

P.S. My wife never hears my songs since I close the door in the computer room while I am working.

I have a captive audience that drives 15-30 minutes (out in country), that will park to watch the whole of what I do (most cars at a single time, I counted 68). I like to do about a 15-20 minute set and I consider that to be extremely long. Many people invariably have a favorite they want to stick around to see again. I did run a 40 minute show part of last year, and found almost no one stuck around for the whole thing (and later got feedback about it).

If I lived in town, and my typical viewer had to stop in the street, or I could only have 2 or 3 cars park to watch at a time, I think there is no way I would do a set of more than 3 songs (and probably just 1 or 2 a night). Keep 'em moving! But, that's not to say I would play the same set every night all season...

Well my Halloween show is around 17-18 songs and lasts about 50 minutes. My Christmas show isn't as elaborate as I started working on Halloween as my first year LOR project and then some of the Christmas ones. I think my Christmas show is about 7 songs and runs somewhere around 20-25 minutes.

Now I would like to break up my Halloween show into several shows, instead of one long run as it is now.

I usually use the Simple Show Builder to create my shows, but it seems when I've run tests and tried breaking the songs up to different times using the MP3 Showtime Director on an SD card, it plays the one show, but not all of them, instead I get one show to run, but shows 2, 3, 4 etc. don't start.

How do you folks set up these multiple shows (preferably on an SD card as that's how my shows will run) to operate and add your blips/info/voice over sequences between them? I am still learning the ins and ous of the programs that create the shows, but know the SSB fairly well, the other show builder programs I'm still not too sure on how to uuse them properly just yet.

So thanks for any advice on this part of running multi shows on any given night!

My first year in 2008 I had about 40 songs. (I found that I enjoyed sequencing and didn't realize until September how much work still needed to be done besides just the sequencing.) Last year we doubled our channels from 144 to just over 300, but I still found the time to add another 30 new songs. This year we're expanding to over 400 channels plus 2 CCRs. That, plus the time I've spent doing paid sequencing for others, is going to cut pretty deeply and I'll probably only get about 30 songs upgraded by the time Thanksgiving comes along. I expect to be adding new/updated songs every other day or so but the count is definitely going to be down this year.

I have 5 songs lasting about 10 minutes ...... that way people can stay for the whole show and leave and allow others to enjoy.

The funny thing is, I have a good set of headphones, but I dont wear them, I like to drive the whole family crazy, since they think I'm CRAZY. My wife gets mad at me when I say, "I'm with LOR right now" Hold on...

This will be my show.

Wizards of Winter

House on Christmas St.

Sandstorm

Queen of Winter Night

Christmas Vaction

Amazing Grace

Crazy Santa Clause (Brain Setzer Orchestra)

I like to move it

I am Santa Clause

Jingle bells Techno

total time just over 28 minutes.

I find it easier to squence wearing headphones.

Otherwise my wife would be throwing things at me!

You and other have that good problem, whereas I do not have that problem where I live.

I can play 200 songs because during the extreme cold snap no one shows up and that's when my wife & I enjoy the show from the living room window.

I actually put the most popular songs on one SD card...........5 at a time.

Bottom line.....no crowd problem for me. Well it could chance this year if my special project works out.

I'll be happy if I get no media coverage.

The best way to get no media coverage is to not tell people what you're doing.

I notice there's a lot of Canadians here and I feel for ya with the cold temps! I lived in NY 20+ yrs so I served my time with the snow/cold. Now living in Charleston SC, there will be nights when people will still have there shorts on viewing the show! And with 49 songs I may never get rid of them ;)

I love living here!

Lots of clean fresh air, parks, lakes, water and land.

Oh ya and cold temps and snow in the winter. Makes my display look better!

To Chime in on the number of songs; I would say who cares how many - think more about time.

10 Minutes leaves them wanting more

15 minutes leaves them happy

20 minutes they're wondering how much longer

anything longer they're leaving...
