LOR 2.8.10 - Pesky, annoying sidebar

I know some may like that tool bar that slides over the channel buttons from the left side of the LOR Sequencer screen, I, however, have found it to be more of a nusiance and very annoying and feel there should have been a way to DiSABLE or TURN THE THING OFF! (I HATE IT!) It has caused me to click in wrong cells when trying to code a sequence because it slides over on top of the buttons and sometimes over the cell(s) I am working on.

Please make it possible to turn this thing off completely in the preferences area or by an "X" close in the next release/update. Prior to 2.8.8 before this PIMA was implented, I had no issues with mis-sequencing, but this toolbal needs to have a way to CLOSE IT! I don't use it, nor do I want it there messing me up at every turn.

Please, please, put a way to disable this thing and close/open it when, or if, you want to use it. (I was hoping someone would have suggested this for the 2.8.10 update.)

This is my only real compaint with the new software, other than that, it works great and no problems so far.

For me, it is always to the left of the Channel buttons and I don't have any overlap...Could you please post a screen shot that shows how it impinges on your channel buttons and song cells? I'd be curious to see how that looks.

I have no problem with a way to turn that feature off. That gives each user the flexibility of setting up the screen with or without the feature....

Mine also, always stays to the left of the channel buttons.

Are you using the autohide feature? Un pin the toolbar, and the only thing that shows is a little box (that unfortunately does pop up over the channel buttons)

If your toolbar is "sliding over" then you have clicked on the little PushPin icon on the Tool menu bar (as shown so clearly in the two posts above). That allows it to open and close. If you click it again, the Tool menu opens and stays open.

When I make my Tool menu collapsible, it stays collapsed unless I hover over the Maginifying Glass it leaves as a reminder of its existence. And only then. No surprises.

I wish it could be locked my self. I do not use it as of yet and it would be great if it could be locked or put at the top until needed.

I would like to have that 1/2 of blank space and add it to the sequence screen.

Nope, not true. It opens even if I am ANYWHERE in that tool bar area, I may not be anywhere near that magnifying glass or anywhere near the top of the tool bar area.

It opens even if I move my cursor (moue pointer) to the left side of the screen at ANY LOCATION on the sequencer screen where that annoying tool bar resides, it can be at the bottom left, middle left, or top left, ANYWHERE to the left of the sequencer screen where that tool bar resides, and it WILL POP UP. I DO NOT have it pinned because that just kept the darn thing open all the time, autohide works to a point, but it needs a way to turn it off completely so that that real estate can be used for sequencing, because IT DOES cut down the screen quite a few cells because of it.

Personally I don't care for it the way it is and would rather have the ability to turn it off. If I were to want to use it, then I'd prefer to have it in a location such as at the top, bottom or either side of the screen or OFF, which would be MY first preference.

We will look into disabling this in a future release. However it does sound like something is wrong. Only if your mouse goes over the gray rectangle at the top of the collapsed side bar area should tool bar expand.

mine does the same thing, if I have it minimized and the mouse moves anywhere across the left side of the editor screen, it pops out which can be very annoying at times, if you don't pin it down it will go away after a few seconds, but it would be nice if there was a way to pin it closed, like you can pin it opened, so that you would have to click on it to open.

Philip and Orville - time to describe your computer and operating system.

Mine is a an AMD Phenom, Radeon Graphics and Windows Vista.

As I described, when I "unpin" the Tool menu, it stays put. I can see why you would be annoyed by it just popping out. All I gain/lose is that little sliver of screen up the left side when unpinned.

Strange thing is Dan it doesn't always do it at all locations or in every sequence, sometimes it just picks and chooses when this toolbar wants to slide open when the mouse gets to the left side of the screen. The most annoying time for this to happen is when I'm trying to copy and paste from one channel to another and tbis slides open, then I end up having to UNDO my last paste operation because I end up pasting it into the wrong cell locartion. So disabling this would be a big plus, at least for me and Philip here!

Now my computer system is: Windows XP HE with ALL current upgrades and Service packs, ATI 9250 Radeon Graphics card with current drivers, 512Mb ram (unfortunately that's the limit of this computer) and Gigs of HD space. 1.6Ghz PIII

I ran the 2.8.10 upgrade and am not seeing the issue anymore. It seems like it might have just been a quirk of the .8 version. It will pop out if I move the mouse over the small icon box with the image of a wrench, but that's what it is supposed to do. Maybe in some future iteration, you could make it only slide out after I hover the mouse there for 1 or 2 full seconds so it won't just out by accident.

How many of you guys use this feature more than 60% of the time?

If it is hardly used then it should be placed somewhere other than the left side until you want to use it. We should have the option of removing it from the left side until we want to use it.

I still would like my full screen back......... a 1/2 inch of plain space serves no purpose.

The only thing I go to the side bar for is to make sure the 'paste from foreground' is checked, handy for pasting chases. I haven't developed the need for all the paste options or recent tools menu. I'm only working with 32 channels this year.

I can't answer your specific question because I'm not sure how to measure the percentage you asked about. I use the sidebar for switching back and forth between paste by time/cell, and for switching back and forth between paste from foreground. So far, I haven't remembered the last/recent tool stuff that's there, but if I ever do start to remember it might become more useful than it is to me today. I, too, find the side bar annoying when it opens without me wanting it to open and wish we had options for controlling its behavior.

I think Dan answered your question, they will look into the option of turning this function off in a future release. Trust Dan to make the effort with your valid request.

I think as you get more involved sequencing sets you will fall in love with the clipboards in that pesky tool bar. It has saved me immeasurable time...

That's the version I'm running now, but it still randomly pops, uhmm, slides open on me as stated in my previous post.

I would also like my full screen back as well. So turning this feature off would be a great plus as said before.

Thanks!
