Don In Kenner-LA Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Hi All:This year Iam putting up 3 x 13' Arches 6 channels each. What is the best way to put them up / anchored to the ground. Thanks Don:)
Bob Wingert Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Can you not use rebarb? I bought some 18" stakes, I'll put the arch sleeve right over the end of it. When I tested it out, it was very secure
Cray Augsburg Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Pokrplr has it 'bout right -- most people find the easiest way is to drive some 1/2" rebar into the ground at angles, one piece for each end of the arch. I would use the stiffest material available that your arches will slip over -- sometimes with thinner stuff, the wind can make the arch lay down.I did see once where a person had welded up some special rebar stakes that looked like crow's feet -- two angled pieces welded to a longer vertical piece. He hammered the vertical into the ground, placed an arch end on each of the two angled pieces and put a candy-cane post on the upper part of the vertical piece.Have fun!Cray
cenote Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Rebar is one one the best methods. To make it more stable and not need any guide wires, simply weld together an "h" on the rebar. Than drive the two bottoms of the "h" rebar you just made. The extra "leg" keeps the arch from twisting. Works like a champ. You can also bend the top part a little to match the angle you create with arch.Hope this helps.Chuckedit...too funny, typed same post as above at same time...
