Putting it all together

Good morning .....

Maybe a simple question .... but I am a newbie.

- Songs are sequenced

- Display being built

- Controllers arriving soon

Question .... Are there instructions on how to get it all up and running ?!

Thanks,

Dave

I have seen a lot of wonderful people helping the newbie start down this path, but I have yet to find a 12 step program to help any of us get off this consuming addiction.

Make sure your controllers will control your lights.
What I mean is test each channel via hardware utility and each controller is assigned the correct address(if you have more than one).
Last year (my first year) I used a 4X8 sheet of lattice to represent my house and strings of lights in a pile to represent my decoration and ran my show in the summer. It helped me discover I had my channels on the controllers marked wrong (marking the dongles were reversed my mistake).

I like that idea... how did you do the layout? I mean, how did you do each element (area, tree, mini, house line, etc) with the test lights? did you make short strings for each thing? Can you make 10-20 minilight strings for .. roofline, mini/mega trees?

I only had 2 controllers last year and used I think 28 channels.
I used 12' led mini strings for everything.
My house outline was/is 3 channels (one string of each colour)
6 channels for the windows (3 colours for living room and bedrooms) these looked like I had round windows :D
My mini trees were build so I used them
Other elements were the lights in a pile.

It wasn't pretty but looked good once it got dark and I ran a show.

Good morning Paul, ok, thanks, I had considered using pegbaord to make a layout of my house/yard, stick minilights on the holes in a house outline. Just cut down several strings to short length and add resistors to drop the voltage to simulate the removed lights. Do the same for the mini/mega tree locations, candycanes, etc.

I know using the Visualizer would prob be cheaper, but I think having a hard model makes it easier to picture/check wiring/channel assignments and sequences..
