pokietech34331 Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Hi E1,Does any one know what i have done...I went to update the firmware in a cmb16d module from LOR and put in the wrong one , now i have nothing not even an led flashing. Power is fine, should i try a master reset and if so do i short out the reset pin to earth or 5volts?cheersDavid
LightORamaDan Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Hi,To do a reset on a CMB16D:Power off, set unit ID switches to "00", power on for a few seconds, then power off and reset the Unit ID switches to their original value. Now when you said that you "put in the wrong one" what does that mean? You should not be able to put the wrong firmware into a controller. Now if the reset does not work then you can try the following:Connect only the CMB16D to the PC and power off the CMB16D,Go into the Hardware Utility and start a Firmware Download. (Select "only one unit is connected", select the correct firmware file, Click the download button...The power is still off on the CMB16D and the HWU will be saying (grabbing unit). Now turn on the power to the CMB16D. Hopefully the firmware download will start. If it does not start then try power/off - power/on a couple of times.Let us know how it goes.Dan
pokietech34331 Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Thank you Dan for your quick response. Your help fixed my controller. You are the man. Many ThanksDavid
aaron Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 what plug do you use with this controller input and outputs and what can you controller with this?Any pics of this would really help too

Thought I was done for the year with controller purchases (added 2 CTB16PCs this year), but the sale price on the new quick connect CMB16D-QC board has nearly tempted me to make another purchase, for possibly LED floods (rainbow?) and possibly landscaping spots (though I am naive about this too). However, it has me a little intimidated. I have 4 CTB16PC controllers (that I assembled but didn't solder) and mini-director, with which I feel very comfortable. However, I have never seen a simple "how-to" for the DC controller/lighting. I have read the manual a couple times, but the electrical side of things has me hesitant since it doesn't give basic directions on that (though I know it can't be difficult). How do i power this board? I know computer power supplies are sometimes used, but I don't quite get this. And a wall-wart can't be used (why)? And then I assume that LED floods/landscaping lights have 2 wires (for each color)--a positive and negative, that are then connected to each channel. And for either of these types of applications, I assume that heatsinks aren't necessary? Ideas on mounting the boards and power supplies? Can multiple devices be connected to the same channel (i.e. I believe a rainbow flood uses 3 channels--could 2 floods be put on the same 3 channels if they were to be synched)? And what kind of cable is run from the DC board to the light device (cat5 for the rainbow flood, right)? And these DC channels are still programmed through the LOR software and could be run using a mini-director?Sorry, I know this is a loaded question, but suspect there may be others like myself in the same boat. I was awaiting the LOR XMAS flood but not sure if/when that is going to happen (and maybe that was going to require the DC board anyways). If anybody can direct me to any sources for this info, or can help educate me, I would be grateful.
rstately Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Hi,I could try to start answering all your questions, but I think you should read the user manual,http://www.lightorama.com/Documents/CMB16D_Man_Web.pdfHope this helps,Ron

I am weak when it comes to electrical stuff, but am a quick learn for most things. For somebody like me, the manual does very little to help answer the questions I have asked. For example, it doesn't explain what you use to connect to the power inputs (page 10). Thanks for you assistance though.
rstately Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Ok,you could use a power supply from e-bay,http://cgi.ebay.com/12V-20A-DC-Universal-Regulated-Switching-Power-Supply-/120571991063?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c12a69417#ht_2353wt_1139Or any 12V power supply that can handle how many lights you have. It could be a landscape lighting transformer you already have?If you are using Rainbow Floods, they use just over 1 amp when all lights are on, (white light). I read If you use cat5e wire, the wire can only handle 2 on a channel. Each light takes 3 channels red, green, blue. so 1 cmb16d would run 5 Rainbow flood lights, and you would have one extra channel. If you are using other landscaping lights you have to figure out the power it takes to run them.hope this helps, I may not be the best one to explain this stuff, so if anyone else could help?Ron

And..it's free shipping. They also have a 30A unit for a good price. As far as use of the board, I think you covered it. I fired my first one up this weekend as I was testing my (first) rainbow flood. Looking at some combo of RFs, maybe Blizzards, and maybe some LED spots...so the CMB-16D is the way to go for them.
Guest wbottomley Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Here's an ongoing topic about the Rainbow floods, DC board, and power supply.http://www.christmascarolina.com/forums/showthread.php/1029-Rainbow-FloodsDan has made it quite clear (at the NJ mini) the xmas flood would not be out this year. They are working on quite a few new toys for next.
Steven Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Part of my display sits on top of an RV van that we don't use in the winter. We keep its battery connected to a smart charger so that it doesn't discharge when the engine doesn't run for 3 months. So I'm thinking that would be a great source of power for my CMB16D! I could even run (part of) my show during a power failure!Someone here powered a CMB16D and an ELL from a battery pack he wore, so he could walk around wearing lights and be part of the show.

aaron Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 anybody has any pics of using or setup with floods and cords
