LOR in Europe (Belgium)

Hello there,

I'm Gunther and living in Belgium, Europe... I'm a huge fan of halloween and the decorations around it! Here in Belgium there's not much going on when it is halloween, but I will try to chance that :P

Now, I'm looking for a light show with the Light-O-Rama stuff, but I don't know if they ship to belgium, and if the systeem would work on 220 volt?

Because we have here 220 v and the lights that we use to decorate are also 220v.

Anyone have experience with the LOR in Belgium of europe and do they ship to here?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings

Without digging out a board to verify ... Yes, these work on 240VAC.

If you look at the User Guide for the CTB-16D, you will see where it lists the supply voltage at 120/240VAC. There is a jumper on the board that changes it over. The CTB-16D is used in the LOR1602 series of controllers.

If the CTB16PC is more your style, it also lists in the User Guide that it supports 120/240VAC supply input. Again, without digging out a controller to look, there has to be a jumper on the board that you change over.

As for shipping .. well, I know they ship to Canada and Australia, so I'd be shocked if they don't ship to Europe. (There are other LOR users across the pond, so I bet they do.)

The LOR equipment does operate on 230v - there is a link on the board that selects either 120v or 230v. The greatest risk you have is 230v lights outdoors and keeping the public safe from them. Some people in 230/240v regions have modified their boards to work on 24v, while others seem unconcerned. If you are planning on using the 230v lighting outside, then an RCD is definitely recommended for safety.

Alan.

Thanks everyone for the quick reply's...

People's safety is indeed a big issue... but everything will be installed behind a fence so that nobody actually can touch anything. Plus... everything works here in Belgium on 220 v so people are used to that.

Alan, RCD stands for? Sorry but I'm new here and do not understand all technical words ;)

Don, I'm thinking to purchase the 16 channel starters package with the 1602 controller... and I thougt I've read on the website that it only operates on 110v. I hope it works on 220 v because I'm not a very handy guy who can chance it and so one..:D

Sorry for my bad English..:(

RCD stands for Residual Current Circuit Device, or Earth Trip. It is also referred to as a GFCI in America, and I think an RCBO in Europe (although the term RCBO has a different meaning in the British Isles).

Edit: The Starter kit is marked as 120v, because it comes complete with the American plugs and sockets.

Thanks Alan,

Now I can be asure that the starterskit will work here in Belgium...

It would not have been a great problem of the system only works on 120v becaus we can buy transformers that transform 220 into 110 here...

thank you very much for the tips

I know you will probably be anxious to order things and make a start. There is usually a "summer sale" with reduced prices across the range of items round June/July time which is fairly soon. It is up to you whether you want to wait and see what happens. The sale is normally announced on this website on the top banner. At the moment there are no details on prices or the date as far as I know. There is also a link for email notifications on the main site.

The software is available for download from the store, and you can do that now (although it has limits on some of the functions until it is licensed), then the starter kit will give you the licence.

Alan.

Gunther,

I would suggest that you contact sale@lightorama.com and work with them directly. I would assume that you may need a different type of plugs and recepacles for your area than we use in the states. Although I have never had anything shipped over seas. I do know that LOR is very accomodating for it's customers.

Also, when you contact sales, they have in the past "sold" the software as a package and they then ship communications adapter when you actually purchase the controller.

Hey Gunther,

Iam Tom and live in the netherlands. about 30 kilometers from the belgium border. You can say that Iam your neighbour
.
Last year I bought two CMB16D boards to run with 12Vdc and 24Vdc lights and one CTB16PC to run 220Vac lights. Its works perfect. When you will run minilights with a transformer you will need dummyload to run the dimming and fading. If you don't use hem your channels will stay on or off because there is to little load on the channel.

If you will ask some questions for our country's (220Vac 50Hz) if needed send me a PM and I can answer them in dutch for you. But in the whole forum you can find a whole lot of answers to most questions.

I discovered that some troubles we have with the lights in the european country's don't seem to occur in united states. this is because off the voltage and frequence difference. The Australian guys can also help with many questions. They run also with 220Vac.

There is a lot of info that may be useful on our local Aussi LOR Users forum at http://groups.google.com/group/Aussie-LOR-Users
