scubado Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I've been very busy this spring building three flower boxes that have built in LED lighting for day and night landscaping. My biggest obsticle to going crazy on lighting is my wife, anybody else having this problem? I'm wanting to start with 32 channels this year, wanting more, but trying to be realistic is a challenge. I hope to purchase during the sale, but unsure at this time, I'm still trying to decide on which cards to start off with. I have a PC that I can dedicate to running the system, but not sure if the PC cards are the right choice for me. What are your cards of choice? I have a small lot, but my location and features lend to a lot of possibilities including taking the lights to the skies. I've been working with LED's for a few years now and a side hobby is to light up kites with led's and fly them at night. This alone draws alot of attention, especially when several are in the air at once. I tried to fly my kites over my Christmas lights last year, but weather conditions were not ideal for the kites. I had the wind, but my kites won't fly in high humidity.Anyhow, I've seen alot of great christmas lighting vivdeos and my hats off to you guys. Do any of you do lighting for 4th of July? I'd love to Shadrack's display go nuts to some American classics.
Brian Mitchell Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Lights on kites. When I used to camp on the ocean in Mass. I'd tape a few glowsticks to a kite and put it up at night. It was kind of erie watching the green glow floating around in the sky at night.I do a 4th show. Adding an animated flag this year.
jimswinder Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Kites with lights...reminds me of back in the 60's when UFO's were big...we would get the dry cleaning bags they put over garments, put some very light wire across the opening at the bottom and attach a small Sterno fuel cell in the middle, light it and watch the "glow" float away.Got quite a few UFO calls from them...

Most would agree that the best value is the CTB16PC cards. If you've got a pc that can be used to run the show this would be your least expensive option. If you don't want to use a pc for the show, or if you need UL approval components, then go for the Showtime products.
mmais68569 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I to would recommend the CTB16PC for the show. I started off with 2 & have added over the last 2 years 2 more. Just get what you can when the budget permits. Mike
scubado Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 Thanks for the replies. I've got a question for Brian, What are you using to control the fireworks and the stars? Is it a modified CCR?My property is across the street from our elementary schools. The weekend before the 4th, they have summerfest with carnival rides and arcade. It would be perfect to be able to put on a display for the 4th. Won't be able to git-r-done this year.
