  1. Hi Ed, I added you to the group. The poll is down the page a bit.. I can't pin two things to the top unfortunately.. There isn't much on that FB page..At this point that page is only to see if there is enough interest to make it worth doing. So far I am short about 40 people that are willing to commit to some extent.. Those moving heads will be there unless someone buys them first.. That big ball is no longer mine. I sold it to Jerry Jewel.
  2. I have been doing a larger display for 6 of the last 7 years. I have been doing lights since the early 70s, but nothing like I have been doing of late. My setup starts in Sept and finishes usually about Thanksgiving. This year since I built the Snowman Orchestra, I didn't get it done until 10min before the first showing on DEC 2nd.. ha ha.. I have all of it down now except for the strings in the very tops of the 55'-60' Christmas Trees. I will take those down when the weather is nicer.. This year I took down even the permanent stuff that was under the eves on the house.. So I do understand about the time that it takes.. I am only 61 and have a lot of years I could still do this (I hope) but that darn traffic.. ha ha.. My advice, that you didn't ask for, is when it is not fun or a labor of love from start to finish,, stop.. even if it's only for a year.. I did that... Not because it wasn't fun, but because I was hoping people would forget a bit and the traffic would slow.. Worked out fine for a week.. then someone told on me and opened the flood gates and here they came.. in droves the came.. over an hour wait just to watch a 7min show.... I was proud but concerned.. BTW, I too started this round of animated displays in 2011 with LOR. (LOR didn't exist when I did my first animated displays)... I used LOR for 5 years and unfortunately the software didn't keep pace and I had to abandon LOR software. I still used a bunch of AC controllers though.. Those are pretty good. Have fun with what you do and do it for the right reasons.. Craig
  3. This would be a one time only event. I am testing the waters to see if there is enough interest to go thru the procedure to set it all up. If you are around this area and attendance is likely, please find my group on FaceBook and request to be in. "Christmas and Halloween swap meet (maybe)" Please answer the poll and read what I wrote about it.. Thanks. Craig Be aware that: I have declined some people because I am trying to get a real number as to possible attendance. If you are not into decorating for those holidays or not in reasonable proximity (300 miles except for some with a travel track record), I need to decline you. Otherwise it could throw the whole thing off.. This is not an event for those that are too far away to assume reasonable attendance.. sorry.. If you don't show some decorating interest on your site or FB page, I will assume you are not really that interested and I will decline you. I will open it up to everyone once I know if this is really happening. Right now bear with me until I get it nailed down.
  4. Thanks! I doubt however that I will gain too much free time.. So many people to help.. so little time to help them.. LOL
  5. I am thinking about holding a Christmas light swap meet of sorts in the summer time here in Elk Grove, CA. Anybody interested? If there is enough interest, I will do it.
  6. got it.. Out today on UPS Thanks
  7. Mr P.. you know that is soooo wrong... LOL
  8. Hi Dick, Thanks for the kind words.. My wife was really sad when I broke the news to her. She loved it so much... but the traffic has become my worst problem.. I can still do it physically and want to mentally, but We just can't do the traffic anymore.. I have had to rely on volunteers and that is asking alot of them over and over.. so the decision is going dark.. Best to you and yours, Craig
  9. Wow, the fact that I am going dark really hits ya when you start taking props apart that you used to hang up and store for a year. Today I am cutting apart my pixel window frames. These are version 2 that I made in 2015. Expected them to be used for many years.. today they will be no more.. Sunday I finished removing the Plasma Icicles 2.0 and they are all sold.. Those were all bought this year with intent to use them for many more years. I took down the "permanent" wiring and controls for the RGB floods that were up for the last bunch of years. They came down as well. The snowman orchestra I built this year was to last for many more years as well... So many ideas for them... But they will not be seen again for the public at my house. It is really happening..... and I am OK with it.. That is the part that is the most surprising.. Will I miss it.. OH HELL YES!. But I will spend more time with my wife doing whatever we want during the holidays.. I guess it's time for us again. Hope she doesn't get bored with me.. :-)

  11. Since I am going dark I am selling my Plasma Icicles 2.0. They were used just this season. I have 136 left. Total price $408 plus shipping. All in like new condition.. single sided These are 5v, 16 pixels, 0.5m long with DI/DO and power connectors. The PCBs are rigid and in silicon sleeves. I had these made by Ray. They worked great for me... Craig For some reason this forum will not allow me to upload a picture even though it is under the size limit.
  12. Last two days.. Sunday they get packed away until next year.. This is the last of the 10 CTB16PCs I started with.
  13. I now have only two of the G2s left
  14. OK.. that was quick.. I now have only two of the G2s and two of the G3s left.
  15. I have eight G2s $150 each and two G3s $175 each. FOB 95624. shipping not included.
  16. My wife is the one that came up with the backyard idea for family and friends.. it's about 30'x60' or so and has 40' tall redwoods on three sides.. I could make a nice walk thru display and since it won't be public, I can play with my laser gear maybe.. Just thinking.. Won't be until 2019 though. I have a new knee on order at Home Depot so that will slow me down for a few months..
  17. My main issue was putting the burden on others for the traffic. Even though we only did three nights a week, that was a lot of work for every that helped out. I couldn't see asking them yet one more year to give up so much of their time. BTW, no matter what he thought, it was only one neighbor that was a PITA.. the rest loved the display and didn't mind putting up with the traffic because we were out there every single night keeping it under control. He was the only one that caused a traffic jam during the entire run this year... So truth be told.. he was really not the main reason we went dark. Thank you all for your support.. and I will still be involved in helping other lighters... I'm not going away.. I still have a big back yard.. ha ha ha
  18. Thanks, but that is a wrap for us.. Last year we took a year off thinking it would slow the traffic a bit.. once word got out we were back, they came in droves and quickly.. So many it took 6 of us last night to control the traffic and it was still tough.. I love doing the display but I just can't keep asking volunteers to deal with my traffic.. ya know?
  19. Lights at the Ranch has canceled the scheduled Saturday night display. It was supposed to be our last, but as it turns out, Thursday night was our swan song. Please pass the word to keep others from seeking out that which is no longer there. We were unable to find enough volunteers for traffic control that night due to the proximity of Christmas and the fact that it is a Saturday and so many have their own festivities to attend. We appreciate all those that have helped with the traffic for the last several display years. I also want to thank my wife for allowing me to pursue this hobby of mine and joining in to help as well. To the majority of my neighbors, I thank you as well for your patience and allowing me to share our Christmas spirit with so many others. For the tens of thousands of you that have come to visit us over the last 7 years, we hope you have taken away joyful memories which will last a lifetime. I have enjoyed meeting all of you that I had the chance to talk to over the years. Perhaps we will meet again. Merry Christmas from "Lights at the Ranch" and... that's a wrap!
  20. OK.. now that I have had them down for awhile.... they are in the way.. so I am packing them back up and storing them until next year, unless someone wants them today.. at 6pm they go back up on the storage rack..
