  8. [align=center][/align] Opposite is a picture showing the different colours and positions of lights that make up the approach to a runway. At the threshold we have green and at the end of the runway we have red (obvious really!). The white thick bands running up either side of the centre line lights indicate to the pilot the touchdown zone. Runways are not designed to be landed on immediately after the green threshold lights, but about 1,000ft down the runway. You can also see in the diagram below that as you approach the end of the runway you are warned by the centre line lights chang
