  2. The 12th Annual Virginia Mini will be held on Saturday, May 11th.  The location will be at the Frantronics computer store located at 3618 George Washington Memorial Highway in Hayes (Gloucester county), Virginia.  If you need further directions or information, please feel free to contact Frank Farmer at (804) 642-5233, email Frank at Frank@franktronics.net or you can leave a message here.  We will have a meet and greet at 11, lunch at noon and then start the Mini at 1pm.

The mini’s are an excellent opportunity to meet with other Christmas lighting enthusiast to share ideas, design plans, implementation, sequencing or just to meet others with the same goals in Christmas lighting displays.

This mini is open to any and all Christmas lighting enthusiasts.  Both ones doing it for the first time and those who have done it for years.  Whether you have a large display or a small one.  All are welcome.

Anyone who would be willing to talk for a few minutes on a display element they have made, design tips, sequencing or anything else you would like to share with the group, please let me know.  I would like to have competed agenda within a couple of weeks.

Frank will have a couple of his own display elements up and running.

Please let us know by phone, email, or this topic that you can attend and how many, so that I can have enough drinks and supplies here.

We will provide drinks (water, coffee, iced tea and sodas).  If everyone can bring along something for lunch/snacks, to share with the group, that would be great.

There is no charge to attend the Mini, just bring some food to share.  I look forward to seeing everyone.

We will have computers and projectors available for use.

Please like us on Face Book.   Virginia Holiday Decorators Group

  3. The 11th Annual Virginia Mini will be held on Saturday, May 19.  Matthew Satterwhite has graciously offered to host the mini again this year.  The location will be Hanover Academy located at

    115 Frances Road

in Ashland, VA23005.   HanoverAcademy is just off I95 in Ashland which is on the north side of Richmond.

The minis are an excellent opportunity to meet with other Christmas lighting enthusiasts to share ideas, design plans, implementation, sequencing or just to meet other with the same goals in Christmas lighting displays.

We want to allow time for everyone attending to introduce themselves and tell us about their favorite display element. We want to give you a heads up so you can prepare to either bring the element or take pictures or videos of it and describe the details of how you built it and how it works.  This could take some time, but we'll all learn so much more!  Anything from your display that you would like to share with the group.  Talk about why it is special to you, or why you made it, how you made it or anything you want to share about it.  There is always a story to tell.

We will provide drinks.  Like last year we are asking everyone to bring some food to share with the group for lunch.  Cost will be $5 per person to pay for use of the building.

We will start with a meet and greet about 11:00 AM, with lunch at noon.  Then start the mini at 1:00 PM and be over by 4:00 PM

Matthew & I look forward to seeing everyone.

  4. Don't worry about a secluded location.  The word gets around fairly quick.  I live in the country outside a small town and get quite a bit of traffic.  It surprises me through out the year when people I don't know tell me how much they like my display.  I get quite a few comments and pictures of my display on Facebook.  If you have a good display they will come.  Good luck.

I built a 12 CCR tree and star with 3/4" sq alum tubing. The CCR remains on the tubing all year, and is stored inside disassembled. If you want more info, I can send you a file that shows how it is built, just send me a note. I am in Fremont, CA, this is an image of the tree setup.

I would like the file if you are willing to share it.  I put my CCRs on 1/2" conduit and am having a problem with it slipping off to the side and not looking straight  I am looking to do something different next year.

  9. I have a similar issue with my G3MP3 show director.  Updated firmware and got the new release of software and still have the same problem.  The problem seems to be with anything you are putting on the SD card this year.  i put in my SD card that has my July 4th sequences on it and it worked fine.  Some how or another I did get one sequence working and am only running that one right now.  In my opinion the hardware utility is not writing the SD card correctly, but I could be way off base as I am no expert.

  10. I did a firmware update on my G3-MP3.  It only took a couple minutes to download the latest level and then only took a few minutes to send it out to the G3-MP3.  Supposedly they are releasing a new level of software which is supposed to take care of the problem.
