When connecting controllers (CTB16PCto computer thru usb-485, error comes up in hardware utility, "serial port (comm) assigned to lor has a problem". I have changed the regular port to every comm port number in the network configurator but the hardware utility will not recognize the connection.

Did you install the usb drivers.Once installed,  plug in the adaptor. Look in device manager under ports to find your comm port

Once the drivers are installed you should be able to see the comm port appear and disappear if you plug and unplug it.

Usb drivers are installed and up to date. The port does show up in the device manager, but has a caution symbol on it.

Unplug the adaptor. Uninstall the drivers.reboot. reinstall drivers, plug in adaptor.

Always install the correct drivers first before plugging in the adaptor or Windows sometimes installs it's own drivers.

If that doesn't work, you may need to get  the ftdi clean utility to clean up the driver install. Should be able to find it online with Google.

Could your usb hub be interfering. Try without it at first.
