Copy "Views" across different sequences?

Recommended Posts

I opened up a new sequence and spent quite a lot of time creating a bunch of different "views".  Can I then copy, or apply, those views to other sequences that I open in the future?

Thanks,

Tim

Great question! Yes, you can. From the main menu select: Sequence > Channel Configuration > Import or Export.

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the quick response!  I am very happy to hear this is (or will be) possible.  However, I just tried that and it didn't work.

- I opened up the 1st sequence (that has all the different views I created)

- I followed your instructions above and exported the file.  It looks like it created a new .lorchan file.

- I then closed that sequence, opened up a new sequence, selected "import", chose that new .lorchan file, and nothing happened.  The views didn't change.

- I tried closing down the sequences and trying again.  I tried closing down the software.  Still nothing.

Thanks,

Tim

Do the 2 sequences reference the same preview? The export/import will only work when they both use the same preview.

Yes, they do.

OK, found a bug. The channel import function runs into problems when trying to change the currently selected grid view. To work around it, open your new sequence. Rename "Track 1" to "t1" or any other name. Now do the import. It will import "Track 1" which contains the grid view you want. This fix will be published in a future beta release.

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the help today.  The work around worked great.  I look forward to the next beta release.

I have to say...so far, i'm extremely happy with the new software.  I think this is a monumental step in the right direction.  For years, I have always been a "middle-of-the-road" enthusiast.  I have been a customer of LOR since the very beginning and at times, I have been very critical of LOR.  But, I have always been honest.  Just as I've been quick to criticize, I am also quick to dish out a bit of praise.  And this software deserves some praise.  I am thrilled to see the visualizer go away!  I have no idea what the plans for the future are, but, consolidation is key in my opinion.  I would love to see other programs merge into this single software suite.  Things like schedule editor, show editor, hardware, etc.  But, for now, this is exactly what people have been asking for, for a really long time. Congrats on a job very well done!  Oh, and one more thing.... "lines - Unconnected" = YES!

Thanks,

Tim

Hey Matt,

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but here it goes...

When I open up a sequence (both S4 and S5 sequences), and then I "import" my new channel configuration, all of my "motion effect" rows are duplicated.  If I go through and manually delete the extra ones, one by one, and then do the import again, they duplicate once again.

So, for example, I've got 8 arches that have a bunch of programming in a sequence.  Each of the arches has (qty 2) motion effect rows associated with them, therefore, I have 16 rows in my view.  I perform the "import", and now I have the original 16 rows (with the proper programming), but, I also now have another 16 rows that don't have any programming associated with them.

My work around is to simply delete these extra rows after the import, but this is very tedious.  Of course, I may be doing something completely wrong on my end, but I wanted to let you know the results I am experiencing.

In case you are curious, I am running the latest beta (5.0.4).

Thanks,

Tim
