JRW12 - Unable to assign LOR default drive to network drive

Recommended Posts

LOR Version:  5.0.0 beta

Operating system:  Windows XP (will confirm on Windows 7 later today)

When starting the S5 sequencer for the first time, it asks where the files will be located (the function that LORPost has done in the past).  I attempt to assign L:\ as the file location.  L:\ is a network shared drive (although on this computer it is actually a folder on the local hard drive).  The sequencer reports that "The folder name you have entered is not valid.", and instructs me to "Please go back and enter a valid folder name."

L:\ is the folder I use on all computers used for LOR.  In the case of this standalone computer, L:\ is actually C:\LightORama, however on the computers at home, it is actually a network folder on my server.  If I assign the actual location on the local drive (i.e. C:\LightORama), it does work.  I STRONGLY prefer to use the same location on every computer, so files don't need to be changed depending on which computer is running them.  Since the computers at home use the server, specifying a network location is required.

Lor 5.0.0 Beta Windows 10 pro.

I can confirm this too,Jim. I am also using a mapped drive, also L:\.  It will not accept the "root" network folder. If you give it a subfolder of L:\ it will accept it.

I confirmed what Phil said.  I created a sub-folder from L:\ and it worked fine when I assigned that sub folder.  So the issue is NOT a network drive issue, but rather a drive root issue.  Please fix this.

Thanks

Thanks for chasing this down to find the root issue. We will get that fixed for the next beta release.

UPDATE with 5.0.2

Have not tried this on the Win7 computer yet, but LORPost.exe will not load on this XP computer.  When I double click on it in Windows Explorer, I get the hourglass for about 0.1 seconds and then that goes away.  Task Manager confirms that it is not running, and that there is a slight spike in CPU usage for just a moment each time I attempt to start LORPost.exe

Update with 5.0.2

I can confirm Jim's finding but  in Windows 10 Pro 64 here.

No indication in Task Manager just a blip, then nothing.

Tried it from Explorer, a desktop shortcut, and run as admin.

It sounds like 5.0.0 did not get uninstalled fully. Uninstall 5.0.2. Verify that the Light-O-Rama directory has been removed from "c:\program files (x86)". If it is still there, delete it manually. Now reinstall 5.0.2 - you should be good.

This is actually a problem with the 5.0.0 installer, not 5.0.2. You should not have to do this again going forward.

Actually I normally do a uninstall and then delete for any LOR upgrade because for some reason this XP computer always has issues with the installation if I don't.  However, just to be sure, I am doing it again as I type this.

OK, 5.0.2 installation completed.

This time it worked.  The only difference is that lasts time, I deleted the few remaining files in the c:\program files(x86)\Light-O-Rama folder, but left the folder.  This time, I deleted the files in the folder and then deleted the folder.  Go figure....

Update on 5.0.2, win 10 Pro 64

Installed 5.0.2 on top of 4.3.20, and Sequencer asked for the path at first startup. It DID accept My mapped network drive location L:\ and started normally.

I then tried to manually execute  Lorpost.exe from its x86 folder and it would NOT run.

I tried this on a second machine already running 5.0.2 on the same OS with similar results but had to uninstall and delete the x86 folder before it would work.

Lorpost will not execute manually.

Actually, it runs; but it sees everything is ok and quietly exits.

Suppose for some reason I wanted to change paths. It has happened.

Phil.

From the Sequencer, Tools > Preferences > User Data Directory
