E1.31 Mega tree / roof outline / matrix

Recommended Posts

I have 2 AlphaPix 16. One is program for the mega tree 16 channels. Its set as IP 192.168.1.50 with SPI Output 1-16. Now I want to use my other AlphaPix 16 for my roof outline and Matrix.  What should that IP address be on the second unit?  should it be 192.168.2.50?

Your second controller will be 192.168.1.51  and so on for any additional controllers.  You only change the last number.

Totally agree, just keep them in order, 50, 51, 52, 53 and so on. Why make it harder then it needs to be, stop over thinking it.  :)

Ok , I made new IP for my AlphaPix 4. ( 192.168.1.51 ) . Now with my DMX Start
Universe. Do I number them the same way I did the other. 1,2,3,4,?

With my E1.11 RS-485/DMX512 Output Configuration. Do I keep it at DMX Universe 1 ? or do I change it to 2 ? since my other control is 1.

This one I am using for my arches If I can ever figure out how to make 16' arch stand up. or I can make eight 8' archs. my lights are 16'.6" long.

Think of ip address's like this.

192 Is the state you are sending command data to. IDAHO for example.

168 is the City

1 is the street

51 is the house on that street

Depending on how many smart controllers you have the IP addresses will be different for each one. Like stated above you only change the last two numbers.  Now for the "universes"... Say your first controller is an Alphapix 16 plus 4 DMX outputs.  So,  those would be universes 1 thru 20. Then your next Alphapix 16 controller would be universes 21 thru 40. Then say you have an Alphapix 4 so it would be universes 41 thru 45 and so on with each controller you have....

I have the IP address down now.

AlphaPix 16 mega tree 192.168.1.50

AlphaPix 4 arches         192.168.1.51

AlphaPix 4 snow flakes  192.168.1.52

AlphaPix 16 is set on Universe 1 with SPI number 1 threw 16.

Now with AlphaPix 4 arches . Keep it at Universe 1 and number them 17 threw 20 ? OR do I change the E1.11 RS-485/DMX512 Output Configuration to Univererse 2 and number them 1 threw 4?

Reason I am asking because I was on S4 Pro and looked at the Mega tree . You can see the Tree is using 1-16 and 17 on are unused. S4 Pro DMX.gif

With your IP (50) leave 17 thru 20 empty.  You'll use them at a later date (trust me)  it's better to leave them so all the universes are kept in numerical order. Now with the IP (51) the universe start would be 21 thru 25 then your IP (52) will be 26  thru 30...

To further clarify. Each controller will have its own set of universe numbers.  If you have multiple controllers with the same universe numbers then you will have the same data from different parts of your sequence trying to go to the same place which will cause very erratic results

I am guessing 17-20 would be the star? I just order the 50" star yesterday and I have another Alpha 4 for that.. I have another Alpha 16 that I am putting together now for the house outline and the Matrix.

so on my alpha4 with IP 51. The DMX start Universe.  SPI output should be 21 threw 25.

where it says E1.11 RS-485/DMX512 Output Configuration to Univererse. I should change that from a 1 to number 21 ?

Great analogy

And you can only direct deliver to houses on your street.  That is YOUR Subnet  (in this case, class C. mask 255.255.255.0 ). To deliver outside your street, you need to connect via router to a WAN

You got boss !!

The next subnet up would be 255.255.0.0 which would give you 254 x 254 = 64,516 addresses and you would be outside of the 192 private address assignment ( there is also a second group. IMSC it's 169. Or something like that. But most ppl do not use it. Corp ifrastructure does however.

172   :D

The main thing beginners need to remember is

The PLUG is not the Network (Type)

Too many designers latched upon RJ11, RJ45 (and many more) because they were cheap or easy to get.

Pinouts and VOLTAGES  are different .. Beware the unused pins :/  some are grounded/or shorted

If you happen to have a POE enabled switch/router port.  ALL 8 pins are used (4 more are also for power+data). Not always a  good mix with other devices (mostly really old)
