1/18/2018 - LOR has resumed operations after the fire   01/17/2018

As of 1/18 we have resumed operations.  On 1/16 a fire occurred in the same building that houses the main LOR offices and manufacturing.    More information can be found in 'Important Announcements'.

Only first video will play, then none

Recommended Posts

Getting back to running my show after taking a year off last year.

I'm using exactly the same files, except for making a few channel changes.  All the sequences have videos attached, which worked perfectly in 2011.

Now when I go to run the show, the first video will play fine, but when it goes to the very next video, it won't play. It looks like it flashes very quickly through all the other videos until the screen is blank, then nothing. I have to stop the show to get out of it.

I've tried making several different "shows" using different sequences in different orders and it's always the same. The first video will play fine, then none of the rest.

I put in a ticket, but thought I'd see if anyone can help here while waiting.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron running Win7 and LOR 2.9.4

I had that exact problem last year. I had a mix of video and audio sequences in the show. It would play the first video in the show, and then skip all other video sequences, but play the next audio sequence. I submitted a help ticket on this issue and got no where. I finally wound up making a single sequence of my 45min shows to solve the problem. I actually liked the outcome better. Didn't have the little box after each video file played and I could adjust the gap between files. The down side is you can't do any show editing, and building a 45min show sequence took 6 hrs (600 lor channels and 22 ccr's), and we run 4 seperate shows. This year, with multi projectors and video mapping, I was expecting the same problem and built the shows into a single sequence again. I researched other posts on this problem, and the problem has been around for a while.

Ken,

So you ran all of your Video sequences in one sequence? How did you add each Video? I also use video and run about 10 songs with video in them. I don't have the Video skipping problem "yet" but every now and then I do have the Small video in the upper left corner that I have to zoom out on.

I've been looking for a way to avoid it and maybe this is it but not sure how to go about making a lets say 30min Sequence and adding all the videos.....

thanks

PS. I'm sure there are other's  who would be interested in this idea....It's been and ongoing issue for anyone doing video...

I just use windows movie maker and make a video of all the video's in the show I want to build. Then build a new sequence, using that file as the media file. Then you have to copy/paste your sequences in time with the combined video sequence.

When you make your combined video, you can edit out any blank areas in the start/finish, or add fades in/out. Movie maker tools are pretty basic, as far as video editing, but they will help polish.

What is really important, after all your editing, is to write down the start time of each video that you add to the combined video. Makes it much easier to know where to paste the sequence. Also, on a longer media/video file, with large channel counts, the farther you get into adding sequences, the longer it takes to save. Take smaller bites and copy/paste. I experience lots of shutdowns/restarts and error msg,s, when I get towards the end of the new 45min sequence, so SAVE often. It will sometimes take 4-5 min to save between pasting, so be prepared.  The first sequence you copy/paste will go quick, the last will take hours, with all the errors and shut downs, but be persistent, and it will go.

If you have a sequence that does not have a video/media file, and want to add it to your show,  make one using a black screen.  You'll still get volumetric light from the projector when that song plays, but the projector will display black.

I hope that all makes sense

It does and I tried it last night but ran into a problem with Movie Maker 2.6,,I have roughly 12 videos that I want to run togethere probably total out to about 25 min...Issue is when I was practicing with the tool I couldn't get 3 videos to combine and save to my PC..I have plenty of space on the hard drive as its new and I only run LOR on it so roughly 400M available..But I'd get the error after saving maybe 16% of the video that I may not have enogh space available...I googled the error and found that its pretty common...maybe has to do with RAM mem..?  did you run into that problem or are you using a different version?

Eddie, I'm using movie maker live, only because it came with my laptop. I had movie maker 6.0 and think it was better, more edit options, and plug ins. I've had that message come up in the sequence editor when pasting, and just had to re-start the sequence editor, and copy paste smaller bits of the sequence. I do have 8G of ram on my current machine, and of my 45 min custom videos take al little over 1 gig (1.2-1.4).

If you can, try "movie maker live", let me know, happy to help

I'll try that tonight  Ken..thanks I'm really hoping this works so i don't have to sit and watch the laptop to make sure I don't get the little screen in the corner ...I've been working with Mike Z as he does Video as well and had the same issue and both of us are trying to find a way around it...this seems plausable and I really only have about 25 minutes of video...to combine

thanks

Eddie

My 3rd year using videos. No problems so far. I convert all my videos to .wmv not sure if that's the solution.

No this is a differnt isssue..all the videos play fine but every once in awhile the video will play in a small window in the upper corner instead of playing full display. It can happen at any time and has been an issue for people who run videos in their show...We've tried a multitude of possible fixes but  nothing to date. It's more of an inconveinience than anything as you have to quickly cllick on that little video in order to make it play in full display.

Oh and yes to answer your post, all the files are .wmv

Ken, I loaded Movie Maker Live and its a totally different look than 2.6. The best part is it actually worked. I was able to combine 14 vidoes and save it to  my pc without any error messages as I was getting before.

Next question....after I saved it to my PC, how did you save the file for LOR to recognize it...I see it saved but I can't get LOR to recognize it....

Hmmm.. sense you used movie maker and saved it, I'm going to assume it rendered in a .wmv file. Next thing to check is the file properties, and make sure there not "read only". Right click the video file and select properties, this will tell us what type of video file was saved, and weather the read only box is checked. if it is, uncheck it and try loading as a media file in the lor sequence editor.

Only thing I can think of right now, but I'll chew on it, and if I think of anything, I'll get back with ya

Ya gotta love Mike Z. Met him several times. He helped me a couple years ago, when I was putting all my videos, inside a video of a working snow globe. He led me to adobe aftereffects, which led me video mapping, which led me to bigger, brighter, and multiple projectors, which emptied my wallet.

He's an instigator.

Love ya Mike
