keepaofdagr00ve
Hi, I just want to confirm if these lights will work with Light-o-rama. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. 1: Rope Light for Trimhttp://www.amazon.com/CBconcept-120VLR-65FT-RGB-Changing-120-volt-Christmas/dp/B009S1C8SY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1383746372&sr=8-3&keywords=rope+light+christmas+rgb 2: Flood Light for floodhttp://www.amazon.com/ZITRADES-quality-Waterproof-FloodLight-Different/dp/B00EN9MYCG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1383746665&sr=8-5&keywords=led+rgb+floodlight 3:LED string light for wire decorations What would be the best solution for decorating something like this? http://www.lorislighteddlites.com/item-detail.asp?part=109&category=Frames Thanks! dgrant
I've not gotten into RGB yet so I can't really advise you on them. But I will say that normally RGB requires a DC control board from LOR or similar as well as a beefy 12volt power supply. The RGB you've listed comes with its own controller just as the yard decoration does too. In those cases where they have their own controllers, I would suggest that you just turn them on/off as opposed to any "effects" being applied. Someone else better educated on RGB will hopefully assist you.
keepaofdagr00ve
Thanks for the replay, I'm understanding a bit more now. Are there lights out there that aren't $300 a strand to get the nice features of LOR?
Santas Helper
The first two items, you will have to hack into them to control each color thru a DC LOR controller and throw away the controllers they come with. You cannot just plug them up and operate thru LOR and run the colors/effects you want. And where are you seeing $300 for a strand of lights?CDI will have there LED light strands on sale next week. Check em out. keepaofdagr00ve
Santas Helper, Is there a tutorial out there on how to hack these lights? And these lights you speak of are the RGB lights to hack? Not regular LED lights? What functions can you use with LOR and just regular LED lights? Thanks for all your helpI was talking about the CCR lights that are $300 a strand.
Santas Helper
Yes,Here is a link from a while back on 10W LED RGB floods hacking.I need to update my findings since I last posted as I've hacked more & more since then.http://forums.lightorama.com/index.php?/topic/26405-10w-rgb-flood-light-reverse-engineering/?hl=%2Breverse+%2Bengineering On one of my posts, there is a photobucket link showing pics. I'm not sure on the LED rope lights but I assume that if they too have a controller, then there might be a similar way of hacking them. I'm currently hacking about 30 of the floods for my display and so far so good. And just to note: the ones you linked to earlier will work but takes a little more digging into, but will work. dgrant
The nicest lights that I've seen that do not use LOR or can't use LOR, are the "LightShow" brand. They usually have their own controllers and do a nice job of illuminating the season but all you can do is turn them on and off. I saw they even came out with a ribbon now, available at Target for $89.
