netninja2001 Posted July 3, 2013 Share Posted July 3, 2013 I'm toying with the idea of picking up some CCRs for this year, but I keep seeing issues with pixels not lighting up, whole colors not working, etc. Once the 2 year warranty is up, I'm concerned on the continued cost of these things. I see a replacement ribbon for sale by LOR for $170 at which price it starts becoming a toss-up on replacing the ribbon or just plain getting a new one.My question is would we be able to use one of those cheap Chinese ribbons as a replacement after the warranty period (just throw out the cheap controller and use the ribbon or just get one of those bulk reels)? I'd much rather get a bulk reel of those for like $15-$20 than pay $170 to replace a ribbon, that way if something does go wrong, I'd have to buy over 10 replacements before I came up to the cost of a single LOR replacement ribbon. My measurements are pretty tight, so it's not like I can just take a pixel out, solder the two remaining pieces together and call it a day, otherwise I'd be all over that solution. So, has anyone been able to successfully pull something like this off? I've tried searching on here and PC, but I didn't really find much other than all the failures without too many solutions. I need to replace a ribbon and do not want to pay the high price, but want to make sure it works and looks the same. Any comments or help is appreciated.
