Channel Setup New to LOR

This will be my first year with LOR and I have been reading the forums for tips and ran across a thread that discussed setting up channels using the standard set up. If I do not have more than two controllers do I just assign higher number channels to my existing 32 channels?

I am planning on having mini trees (thanks to Planet Christmas magazine) and for example on the Master controller layout these are several channels beyond what I have. Since I am just getting started, extremely late from what I understand, I will need to download a few sequences and need to know how this works.

Thanks to everyone who shares their experience and helps us new guys get started.

Hello James, welcome to the madness that is LOR!! You dont have to use the Master list, it's designed for using the same unit/item numbers for doing sequence sharing and not having to renumber units.. you can number/name your unit whatever you wish.

However, you can not number your unit higher than the license you hold.. ie if you have a Basic, or Basic + license, you can not number your units higher than 2 or 4 (the number allowed by that specific license).. if you use the Master List and your mini- or mega trees are numbered units 6, 7, 8, (etc) then the S3 software wont run the lights as those unit number arent allowed by your lic level.

Keep it simple, I'd start with what you've got, number them, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc... Download the sequences, then go in and just edit the unit numbers to what you have.. When you get to 15 controllers, you can use the Master List :) I'm at 13 units and just number mine 1-13 without using the ML..

Thanks for the quick help on numbering, I haven't downloaded the software yet as I am waiting for my summer sale purchase to get processed but think I will just getbthe free download. I was worried that renumbering would be difficult but it doesn't sound like an issue. Thanks for the links to the sequences and the information on how to use premade sequences. I am sure I will have additional questions as I read more.

Looking forward to the LOR madness as christmas lights have become an annual tradition for me and my two sons. Tried the 4 channel controller in a box but found Planet Christmas last year and here we are embarking on our first year and the boys are already talking about next year.

Thanks again for all the help.
