Race car driver?

Nope, but wanted to try it many years ago, actually wanted to be a stunt car driver and wreck, jump and mangle cars. LOL

Although I had an uncle by marriage {now an EX} that drove and built race cars.

So have you tried out being a train engineer then?

Believe it or not, yes, but not officially.   I used to hang out with a switching crew and got to know the engineer and conductor very well.   Even got to know and shake hands with some of the bigwigs of the RR.

Got a few rides in the loco and they let me pilot it a few times too in the yard.     But that was something they weren't really supposed to do.

The conductor always tried to get me to go to school to come to work with them, but unfortunately my vision ruled that out.   Couldn't pass the eye test being legally blind in the right eye, it's also what ended my electronics career early.

Although I have always loved the idea and wanted to work on the railroad, tried many times from the time I got right out of High School, but always got turned down, even though I had relatives that worked for other rail lines, L&N and C&O, but SAL/SCL always shot me down.   But I did become great friends with the stationmaster until they did away with his job when things got more automated.

But he was very close to retirement anyway by the time all the changeovers were occurring.

Anyone else hanging around the depot he'd run off, but he always allowed me to stay and chat with him once he found out I had relatives working the rails and I wasn't an idiot kid just there to "mess around" or deface the rolling stock {paint graffitti on the cars} like others did.

Everyone always said he was a tyrant of the depot, vicious and mean, but instead of running off like others, I actually started asking him questions about the trains, what he actually did there, and that I was familiar with train and rail safety since I had relatives currently working in the industry.   And we ended up becoming good friends for the duration he was there.   I think they retired him sometime in or around 1983 or 1984 when CSXT merged with just about everyone, L&N, C&O, SCL, etc.  Of course by 1984 I was in my late 20's, and I started hanging out at the depot sometime around 1969.

Sorry you asked? LOL

So what type of engines did you get to play with?

Already on SSD and other programs. But they still don't cover a lot of things. And they just started taking deductions out of my SSD which I really can't afford, but have no choice or say in that matter.

Do have some things in the works, but going to take time before anything happens.

What do you have your foot in the door for a job? Congrats if so! That will help buy more lights.

Or sell the lights that are on the way to pay for life's essentials...like food, mortgage, utilities, etc.

Like you said..its easy to bite off more than one can manage, and so sometimes you have to live on the cheap.

Especially when you are 100% dependent on the govt for your income.

SD45-2, AC44CW, AC60Cw, CW44-6, but mostly B36-7 types as those were the ones pretty much regulated as "yard switchers" at the time, but occasionaly the guys got one of the other types for a few hours when making up freights.

Those had to be cancelled. :D Couldn't afford them after having to do almost $7,500 in vehicle maintenance on our cars. And neither one is even worth that much, but they're paid for. So.....

Although we have been thinking of selling off the wifes' car, but she doesn't want to do that just yet. Mine is just too practical for moving things to/from, so it wouldn't be wise to sell that one. But still wouldn't get near the price from all the repairs I just put into it about 2 months ago either. I'd be taking a beating on selling either one of them at this point.

Yep, on a no rehire status with them. Wouldn't want to work for that outfit ever again anyway! Worked for them in 1978 in the laundry facilities. Horrible job!

Have attempted Sea World and Universal, but always get the "Thank you for applying, but we have nothing that meets your specific experience at this time."

So basically get the dear john letters from most of the theme parks I've applied at, along with too many Hotel/Motels to name I've applied and even interviewed with.

Guess I'm just a lost cause in todays market, especially with having medical disabilities that now severly limit me.

You're kidding! Why the heck would they put you on a "no rehire" status?

I'd have to tell you that story in person. Not one I would place out here or in writing anywhere.

Let's just say I got escorted to my car by security and told don't ever come back!

All I can say is it involved myself, a supervisor, and a dryer.

Naw, not X rated at all, but it would have made a great comedy scene in a movie. And that's all I'm gonna say.:D

They just didn't think so.;)
