LORVis - need some input

Hello all! I'm putting the finishing touches on my Halloween extravaganza but have run into a bit of a snafu. I didn't have time to make any sequences for this year, so I decided to use the LORVis plug-in for Media Player this time around. It works very well with music already on my hard drive, but what I am trying to do is use my computer's line-in port as the music source. I found a plug-in made by Chronotron that allows you to do this, but it doesn't work very well. It seems to hang and eventually the visualization locks up. I'm wondering if there is another way to achieve what I am trying to do. Any help would be awesome.

As far as I know LORVis only does 8 channels.

You may want to consider DMXControl software, with the s2l plugin. http://www.dmxcontrol.org/wiki/Soundanalyser

I played with it a bit. If you want something looking good, you still need to spend a lot of time assigning chanels to the sound spectrum, but it does do what you want.

You would need to get a supported DMX Dongle, and run everything in DMX mode to use DMX control ( you should just need to make a DMX 5 pin to LOR rj45)

Items like Mega Trees dont look so hot with this setup.
Arches are OK, but no substitute for good ol' fashioned squences.

Thank you for the suggestion. Lorvis is capable of 16 channels so I had hoped someone had already attempted what I would like to do. Don't know if I will have time to play with dmx stuff now but it is certainly worth a shot.

Never tried it myself but all the documentation says it only uses 8 channels.

"A Windows Media Player visualization plug-in for your Light-O-Rama controller.
LORVis is a visualization plug-in for Windows Media Player that will utilize a Light-O-Rama controller to synchronize your christmas lights with live music.
You can connect your lights in any fashion you want. The plugin typically will use channels 1 through 6 to represent a linear effect of some kind, assuming they are next to each other. Channels 7 and 8 are used for more general effects."

  • 1 month later...

Originally LORvis was only 8 channels, but was later upgraded to 16 channels. Perhaps the docs were not updated.

To my knowledge, LORvis hasn't been supported by its author in several years.
