Pole Suggestions

I hope this image does not come up too big.

Keeping with the holdman star base idea ...

I have some gift cards ( donation ) from a local hardward store.

I was thinking of going with a 1" or 1.5" diameter black drain pipe.

The stars are 3' tall so I was going to make the poles up to them 4'. I was also thinking of having the pieces that go down both sides of the room 4' each way. It is a low pitched roof.

From the diagram ... do you think this will work.

Thank-you for all your input !!

Dave

I should have added ... the square pieces are where the pipe will go up to the stars.

I would think it would work...my only concern is what are you more comfortable and capable of working with...metal or wood...or equally able with both?

Jim ....

It would actually be black PVC pipe .... not wood or metal.

lol..

sorry...black pipe to me is metal... :P

then I would be concerned with the strength of a 4' piece of 1.5 pvc pipe...

especially with wind loads...

It is a thick plastic pipe like you would use for drains.

I am still lost on this whole wind load. The starts are hollow and the pipe is round so I wouldn't think the wind load would be that significant.

Anyone else comment on this ?!

Thanks everyone !

I think if the starts are hanging down and also to swing a bit on the cable that would be fine. As for the pole at the end of the house - why not rent some space from the neighbor.:]

Thanks for your input Dave .... I think I have gone away from the cable idea and more towards the frame on the roof.

That's whats nice about the forum. If you can put it into words, somebody will have a concept to try; or at a minimum have some fun poking it.
