RaceMedic
I used 2" x 2" plastic downspouts for all my windows and roof line.Split it in 1/2 with a drimmel tool .. drill 3/4" holes every 3" for 2 strands of c9 bulbs.A LOT of work the first year but now I can hang them off the eaves trough ( different technique then splitting them in 1/2 ) and all the facing of my home have them also.10ft lengths go up with 3 screws.Photos are here .... http://www.pbase.com/dgeallLook under christmas light project at the bottom left !Any questions ... feel free to ask !Dave

We have some brisk winds here in the recent week and all have remained in place. Each set of legs or stand-offs are about 5ft OC and that is the anchoring point. There is a piece of #12 wire running between each leg and that is attached to a shingle clip with the rope light clip tab removed. This method sure saves my shingles and is a time saver while on the roof (pe-assemble each section on ground). Hope this is helpful.
