Panoria setting in...again...

I do Haloween displays pretty big for the last 10yrs or so and never had anything walk off/get damaged. Our Christmas display however, had baby Jesus disappear out from the manger several years in a row, but that seemed to be a neighborhood-wide thing.. a LOT of houses had the same thing happen..

When I started with Christmas lighting several years back, I began with a Mr. Christmas box mounted in the garage, with the volume turned up to be able to hear it thru the garage door, but you still had to be on the sidewalk to hear it.. Garage=security, but not really that good for visitors..

Last year, I went with LOR, had 2 controllers, still mounted inside the garage next to the controlling computer and extensions running under the door, so they were all secure, and 1 box screwed into the base PVC pipe of the megatree out front. It was painted the same forest green as the MT pipe and at night you couldnt tell the box from the pipe, 'just blended in. Still I thot garage=security.

Nothing happened this year, to either the lights, or manger display, so I'm beginning to rethink mounting the controllers where I need them (at the arches, MT, etc), or at least out of the garage, hidden in the bushes, saving on extension runs..

In Phoenix, the winter weather is still pretty nice (warm, fairly dry) and people/kids are out late still.. If I were in a different part of the Valley, I would definately leave everything mounted inside the garage.. I guess it depends what kind of neighborhood you're in..

As Steve said, most of the housings look like sprinkler, or cable tv boxes so they're usually left alone.

The stop sign at the end of your street is more expensive than your controller and how often do they disappear? Not that often. I think the "How to secure my controllers" posts on the many boards must outnumber the "My controller was stolen" posts 100 to 1.

I have had a large display for Christmas for many years now. Two years ago I started with LOR controllers. I worried about them disappearing and went to a lot of effort secure it and locate it close to my front door.

I got over that as I learned more about how to use the controllers and wanted to change my display arrangements. The last two winters I have had multiple feet of snow that covered the boxes anyway so unless they wanted to dig around for them they would not get them anyway.

When I have my display going I also let my dog out into the front yard. If anyone comes inside the yard he lets me know about it.

I do have a lot of foot traffic to watch the lights and I also have a donation box for Toys for Tots. I have really relied on people are basically good and the worst thing that has happened to me is kids rearranging my deer onto each other.

The deer are a lot bigger in Utah than the deer down south are.
