  1. Does anyone have a hi resolution picture of the CTB16Kpc board, either completed or without any work at all? I have a friend who soldered my boards and I'm pretty sure he got the orientation wrong on a few diodes, if I had a picture with the correct orientation I could compare it to mine and see. I know the board itself shows the correct orientation, but with the diode covering it I can't see what's correct. I have looked on google images but can't find a picture with enough quality to be able to zoom in and see. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
  2. Hi Folks, I'm really excited to do a light show this year but before i buy the equipment i had several questions in mind. Main one is is it too late to get started since this is my first year i dont know how much time ahead yuo need to plan and how long it would take a new guy (like me) to sequence. I plan in getting started with 16 Ch this year. Also I was Wondering since most people share sequence or buy them is it easy to just copy paste into your own light show, for example i want to do a 8 ch mega tree can i just use the copy an existing sequence and then work with the other 8 channels? Will take any advice anybody may have Thank you!!!
  3. I am trying to install LED string lights around my second floor bedroom windows. I have alumminaum sidding that nothing will stick to and would like to not drill though it. I have shutters that are butted up next to the window. The window frame is also alumminuam and nothing will stick or hold on to it. I was thinking of making a wooden frame but do not know how to hang it around the window. Anybody have any ideas how to hang my light around those windows?
  4. We found this information very helpful last year when we where trying to get a grip on how it all worked. Hope it helps someone save time searching for good info. Happy Holiday Light Shows. https://www.seasonalentertainmentllc.com/pdf/UnderstandingDMX.pdf
  5. Was on a total budget to do this in time for Halloween. First time ever to do this. It consists of a huge mock orange bush draped with a surplus parachute and using only seven channels and strings of cheap LED lights on plywood. Yes it looks much better darker, but I wanted to show the the pumpkin. Still have no idea of how to get LEDs to create colors that aren't going to bankrupt me. Your feedback would be appreciated.
  6. Hello I have a few of these pixel strings: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/promotion-WS2811-IP68-led-pixel-module-256scale-gray-IP68-3wire-red-blue-black-DC5V-input-50pcs/469177597.html There 5V 60 mA pixels my question Is what is a good power supply that would work well with these? I had a few power supply problems a few weeks back so I'm kind of scared to try and figure this out on my own If you know a power supply that would work well please reply to this post with a link. Thanks
  7. I have a PC with two built in RS422/485 Ports and am curious if there is a way to use them versus USB to RS485 adapters. I realize that I would probably have to build custom cables to connect them to my LOR network. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. JW
  8. Has anyone ever tried the Clear spray on electric tape from US Plastics. It looks like a great way to waterproof connection on RGB strips. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=65222&catid=699
  9. I am adding some (dumb) rgbb strips this year and was wondering if these 5050 strips will work . i am using light-o-rama's cmb24d board. te pricing looks good and the delivery is very fast with no shipping charges. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-10X5M-50M-5050-RGB-150Led-SMD-Flexible-Lamp-Light-Strip-IP65-Waterproof-12V-/261294533721?pt=US_Car_Lighting&hash=item3cd65e2c59#ht_9549wt_1283
  10. Being somewhat new and just a dabbler (for now) am I correct in understanding that the DIO32 DMX with DIO16AC boards will function the same as the CTB16PCs with only some DIY work for enclosing, wiring, and power?
  11. I'm thinking about building a smaller pixel tree out of 8, 5m ws2811 pixels (halved, up and over to make 16, 2.5M strands) Can anyone supply any commentary or downside to this? And a link to another forum with similar information or plans would be great....thanks!.
  12. So I did my first LOR show last year with a 16 ch controller. It went over very well with about 30 people showing for opening night. This year I took advantage of the sales and picked up 3 more controllers. My big addition for the year is going to be a 10' Spiral Tree. What I cant figure out is how many strands of lights to use. I don't have a huge budget, so I plan on using Multi color LED Wide angle mini lights rather than solid strands of each color. I just cant figure out what is a good amount of strands to use. Will 16 strands work or should I use more? TLDR 10' Spiral Tree with Multi-color wide angle mini lights, how many strands will sufficiently make it look good (On a Budget) Thanks
  13. Hi everyone I wanted to get some more pixels for this year and was looking at these: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/5m-led-digital-strip-DC12V-input-WS2811IC-256-scale-10pcs-IC-and-30pcs-5050-SMD-RGB/701799_568458133.html They look ok, but I can't find any protection raiding (such as ip68) and even though I know some times those ratings can be extremely incorrect its still a nice bit of info to know and also I contacted Ray Wu and haven't got a reply yet so I wanted to know what you guy think or even if you own this strip yourself what you think of it. Thanks.
  14. I have finally finished my custom 48 channel box. 3- CTB16PC circuit boards from LOR installed in a 28in data system inclosure from Lowes.
  15. Greetings Everyone ! (Not Seasons though ). Yes I know it's July, BUT, I'm still building my DIY kits (on the last one) I have a question about doing a matrix (16 x 16) using 2 of the CTB16PC kits. Now I know that "out of the box" these will NOT do it, HOWEVER, since they are unassembled in the first place, that gives me the opportunity to do some mods to these two. I CAN get in depth on the MOD, however, I am more interested in whether anyone else has done some ? I am prepared to "trash two kits" (just the basic board for one, and the other is the board with cords version). In a nutshell though, it involves cutting the power transformer traces on one board and running it on the neutral (white where the blacks would go, and NO blacks, and visa-versa for the other board. One board would switch the hots, and the other board would switch the neutrals. (Think "X" x "Y" plot) The reason I want to do this is to make "snowflakes" (single lights) in the christmas tree (wireframe). If I did this with normal controlers, it would take some 8 or 9 kits to do what I want. (and only take about 2 or 3 amps total) I would prefer to test (and do) this with just two kits. Greg
  16. Hi I'm wondering if this DMX servo control will work? I'm guessing it will just like any other dmx thing you just have to enter the channels correct and to control the servos fade up and down??? I'm I right heres the board I would rather go with this than the servodog because you also get 8 relay outputs and 8 dim-able led outputs along with the 8 servo outputs for $5.00 less then the servodog and the servodog only has 8 servo outputs not the extra awesome outputs. I think I'm going to try it everyone in the Halloween form says they love it. here is the link to the Medusa Dmx http://www.ohmmygadgets.com/medusadmx.html it looks really COOL to me! What do you guys think?
  17. I am fairly new to visualizer. I have ran my sequences for a couple of years but this is the first time I have taken a photo of my house and then made the display. Im having a hard time trying to figure out how to link my display from visualizer to the sequence. I want to see how it works and i am not understanding how to get it done correctly. Could someone please assist me with some links or a how to? Thank you.
  18. Hello all, We bought our first controller last X-mas. I think we're hooked. We bought two more for our Halloween display this year. Everything in the video is hand made, including the tombstones. We learned to make a few of the props from Halloweenforum.com. We wanted to be original and not use the Halloween display items sold in the stores. It just seems all the stores sell the same stuff. Many of the houses in the area have the same feel to it. We got the faces from Holidaycoro.com and had to install the lights. It took us several weeks to make everything. It was worth all the hard work. Enjoy the video.....
  19. Newbie here looking to go big this coming Christmas and want to start planning now... I'm trying to keep the cost down as much as possible so I figure I have time to solder my controller boards (even though I've never soldered in my life). My question is about the soldering iron, does it need to be a certain watt or type? I see my local Fry's electronic store has a 60 watt iron on sale this week and I thought about picking it up. I don't want to waste the money if it's the wrong kind, or if there's something better for not much more. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get started! Thanks
  20. Does anyone know if it's possible to use a pixel screen controller to control pixel strings? I'm basically talking about the controllers they use for modular displays and concert backdrops. I'm sure there's some sort of correletion....
  21. Hello people! Happy new year to all! For 2013's Christmas, I was thinking to use one of lightorama's 12vdc board, to fire gerbs, and gerbs only. Any ideas!?
  22. I am wondering if I can cut my 50 light LED strings shorter & if they will still work? I am thinking about different displays, ex stars that are too small to for the full strings. Is their any problem doing that? Any suggestions? thanks
  23. For those that have built or tried to build a 12' or higher mega tree in their display know how time consumming it can be and the difficulty in trying to keep all those lights from tangling during assembly. Two years ago I decided to do something about it by coming up with a design which is both tangle free and easy to assemble and store. I thought I would share my design for those interested. I just purchased LOR equipment so next year will be the 1st year of using a musical sequence to control the little mountain next to my home. Attached you will find the pdf file and narrative on the construction techniques. Please email me at frank@santatrain.com if you have any questions. You can see photos at www.santatrain.comMegaTreeAssemblyNotes.pdfChristmasMegaTree.pdf
