  1. yes they are on seperate channels (icicles). blue and white. 4 channels. this is a pic before i got the garage doors lined with rope light too. damn, i forgot there's MORE RGB strip i'll have to buy... if anyone ever responds.
  2. ok, so i am very new to this. just started in december and got up some decent amount of lights. i dont know why, but i'm hooked on ropelights along my rooflines (3). i have two 30 ft sections and one 55ft section. i already have white led ropelight and blue ropelight up. i'm looking ahead to 4th of july (and beyond). i want to have red and green also, but i was thinking RGB strips might be a better way to go instead of having so many ropelights up, and hopefully cheaper too. i'm pretty sure i am looking for 5050 waterproof RGB strips. i am OK with "dummy" strips. i do NOT need pixel control! ok, so i've found several places that sell them. http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/364353415-Free-Shipping-5M-500CM-Waterproof-RGB-5050-LED-Strip-24-key-IR-Remote-12v-3A-Power-wholesalers.html http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-5M-12V-Waterproof-led-strip-flexible-car-light-5050-SMD-RGB-300-PCS-IP65-IR-/220905475053?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336efe0bed i see that they each have their own controller. this is where i am lost. i've read that LOR dc controller would handle what i plan to control, is this the right one, http://store.lightorama.com/cmdedcca2.html another thing i have read is that i need to power them every ~15ft or every "5M strip". can i get some advice/help here please? am i already off the path or am i in the right direction?
  3. thanks for your comment. the cypress/tall trees i did have an issue. i went cheap and bought net lights from ebay/china. i will have to read better next time. the net lights from china have a "8 mode controller" attached, that when unplugged/plugged, goes to a random mode. so i could not control them properly. i decided to still use them vs not use them. lesson learned. and yes, the spiral sucked. not enough strands and not enough revolutions. i now know of the spiral calculator!
  4. Ok, I know I'm A LOT late posting for Xmas display. I juts took video several days after Xmas and left for 2 weeks vacation so didn't have time. I'd appreciate ALL comments good and ESPECIALLY the bad as I want to improve for next year. I had a lot of fun setting this up. It took about 2 weeks to setup lights and rearrange downloaded msuic (yes i cheated). i created the "that's all folks" myself, but that's only 30 seconds... Luckily, we live on a corner house with LOTS of traffic! Friday Saturday and Sunday (23, 24, and 25th) were busy from 6pm to at least 9pm. I had fun watching the surveillance cameras with the family during the show. The kids would always yell "turn off your lights!" or " move, you're blocking the other car"... and to top it off, we got an anonymous Xmas card thanking us for the light show! The show didn't go live until 2 weeks before since I didn't receive my controllers until the first week of December. Again, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE comment, thanks!!! http://www.youtube.com/user/gotbluemilk1?feature=mhee

    Amperage

I would highly recommend the KillAWatt. The Killawatt also shows amp, voltage, watts, kwh. Sorry, but I've shopped at Harbor Freight before, and I wont go back there for anything I want to trust.
  6. Ugh. I had to say it again. I love your spirals!
  7. Thank You VERY MUCH for the explanation. Makes a WHOLE lot more sense than what I did! that being said/done...Ok, just a crazy thought here (mostly because I outhink myself and am lazy). With nothing else attached (vertical lights),If I attach all the spiral lights at the top and bottom vertically (having the full length sag) then take my hook head and spin the hook head until I get two complete revolutions (considering I accounted for correct tree height and revolutions). Theoretically it would work, but knowing me... it probably wouldnt. I think I'll just stick with your directions...
  8. So if I understand correctly, you use the spiral tree calculator to figure out where the strings should go? Did you use vertical guide wires to attach your spirals? Sorry for so many questions, but my spiral and your spiral are worlds apart! meaning your is WAY better!
  9. WOW, That is in AWESOME Spiral! Could you please share how you got them laid out so uniformly? I had problems getting my spiral to look anything organized.
  10. EDM LCD CS EP ordered Nov 8 delivered Nov 25
  11. sorry, i tried searching , but just got "making tomato cage mini tree" results... thanks for your replies!
  12. is it safe to place tomato cages directly on floor (if raining)? i see how this could be a problem since the cage is metal standing in a pool of water. i've heard you have to raise them off the ground. i want to be laxy and not have to do this, but...if i have to... can anyone chime in please?

  14. Paul Roberson wrote: i contaced them and they said the LED ropes they sell are dimmable, is this your experience? can you attest that they are dimmable? If so, those are some great prices!
  15. is there a maximum length i can make the ropes. i think i read that the max length is 30ft? but i can daisy chain more than one 30ft section together?

  18. im new to this hobby, so i'm not sure where to buy everything, but i always search ebay. i saw somewhere "dont buy on ebay". why shouldnt i buy rope lights from ebay?...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120806195380

  20. damn, $355, $306 (with a bad channel) and $390 are what they ended at.
  21. mostly all LEDS, and P3 already ordered. Did not know about installing jumpers, I think that will work best for me since almost all LED's. I really dont see using that much power, but with the P3 I'll know for sure, thanks for the heads up on the jumpers! I was just thinking of using a "splitter" to get the power to the two cords on each of the controllers from the same extension cord run.
  22. what card kit, the DIY? my order, SPK-ST Generic Starter SPK-ST 1 112.85 Cable = 10ft Cat5 Cable Package Connector = USB - USB485 (Will ship in 2-3 weeks) Feature Level = Advanced (+69.00) Software = Download Only Card Assembled (Complete PC-CTB16PC-COMPLETE 3 205.95 Country = USA & Canada Package) (Will ship in 2-3 weeks)
  23. this is what i bought (x3) PC-CTB16PC-COMPLETE. i didnt see the option where i could buy the 15 amp version. the only 15 amp versions i could find were the LOR1600W (too expensive). can i ask them to make these 15 amp instead of the 30 amp or they already prebuilt?
  24. Ok, I'm new to this "hobby". but am i missing something or is the seller getting the better end of the deal here? i know from experience selling camera gear(im a photogrpher) that ebay bidders can be really stupid on what prices they will pay. LOR1600W new is $320, but he/she is selling a 2 yr old unit for almost the same price as new! plus they have 2 more units 4yrs old (one with a faulty channel) and those are going for the same price also! the only thing i see why it's this price is because of "out of stock" at LOR... your thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/190595184784?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/190595185991?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/190595186507?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  25. I will be using a high majority of LED (ropes/mini). That is one questions I had. Well, One reason I wanted LED is for the power consupmtion. Where do I plug the controllers into? Just the regular outlet in the garage and run extension cords out to the controllers? I'm assuming using mostly LED's, there wont be a power consumption issue...?
