  1. Over the years I have purchased quite a few Superstar sequences and they all have a 6 channel star as part of the sequence. Is there an easy way to take the effects that would have been on the 6 channel star and make them work on any type of RGB topper? Is everyone just starting from scratch with their mega tree topper or has anyone figured out an easy way to use the effects for the 6 channel star?

  2. I took a different approach than most others, I run my show with LOR but did some sequencing in XLights. I export out of XLights and bring it in the sequencing editor. This way I have the best of both worlds. I like the way my original sequence editor sequences look,  I like the way my SuperStar sequences look and I like the way my XLights sequences look, they all look unique.

My advise, dont stop using S5 because of some issues, both software's had some issues this season.

  3. Never did any sequencing in 5.3x. Stayed on 5.2.4 and show is running perfect. I didnt change because of MIIP. Cant believe the lag problem isnt fixed by now, that makes no sense. If the files are already created where would the lag come from. I did notice with my limited time with 5.3x that some of my files got huge. The people who have lag how big are the shows?

  4. What what I remember from conversation, just create a show and play it and it will create the playback files. I stayed on version 5.2.4 for that reason. Although it is cool to not have to manually create the playback files, the way the newer version renamed the files would possibly mess with MIIP if you use that software.

  5. For years now, I always setup and play my show several days before my actual show starts, I play the show all the way though with no power going to the controllers. That way the .LCS file would get created which always took a while to create. Even if you pre-created that file, the show would sometimes create it on its own the first time.

In regards to the MIIP program, I don't use it so this is just a thought. If the ".000.236" was removed from the filenames, then MIIP would work right? I am not saying this is ideal, but wouldn't be a work around? It would involved renaming all the files, or creating a batch file to do it automatically. Again, just a thought.

That is sort of what I am trying to find out. Is the 000.236 consistent. If I remove that from the file name will it create files again, I guess I could run that test and see what happens.

I, myself hated having to open all the sequences and create the playback files. I never created them until November.

Still think the best option is a program that can create them on its own. Select a folder of sequences, 3 hours later, Bam they are done.

  7. So I am trying to wrap my head around playback files for 5.36 vs 5.24.

Here is a screenshot of files created using 5.24. Once the sequence is played in the show it will create the compressed sequence, the .lcs file.

Although an added step to create the playback files manually which is a pain, the files make sense. With 5.24, you choose the .lms file to add it to the show.

Here is the screen shot of the files created by 5.36. At this point you only have the .loredit file. That is the file that you choose to add a sequence to the show.

The files below are created in the LORinternal folder. They are created the first time you play the show. Not sure where the 0000.236 comes from.

The file sizes got strange also, as you can tell my largest sequence got larger instead of smaller.

I like the fact that you dont have to create the playback files but the name change wont work very well with Bob0's MIIP program.

What would be very cool would be a utility that created all these files ahead of time so the show played didn't have to,  like the file compressor program we had in version 4.

Anyways, though I would post this to see where all this is going to shake out.

  8. Installed 5.3.4 hoping there were some memory issues resolved, sadly they are the same. I sequence the old fashioned way. Little or no motion effects for me. Several of these sequences go back many years and just updated each year. I have quite a few sequences that were created using version 5.2.4 which will open in 5.2.4 which will not open in 5.3.4. They give a memory error. I can no longer open a 2 gig sequence which was no problem before.  Is it possible the newest exe files were not 4 gig patched. I believe that was going on for a while.

  9. I loved many things in the newest version 5.3.2 but today I had to switch back to 5.2.4. Up until today I had just been opened existing sequences in the newest version and was checking out all the newest features.

Today i started working on a new sequence and right off the bat I noticed a few things. It took much longer to import in my grid view. On 5.2.4 it takes 60 seconds and on 5.3.2 it took 120 seconds. Twice as long really no big deal but it was noticeable. When the blank sequence is saved at this point, with 5.2.4 it is a 30 meg file, with 5.3.2 it is 114 meg, again no big deal but was worth noting. I would not have switched back for these reasons.

I have purchased quite a few xlight sequences and have developed a way to bring them into S5. It is done via exporting S5 clipboards out of xlights and importing them into S5. The clipboards are quite large, anywhere from 2 gig to 5 gig. They have all imported into 5.2.4 successfully. Might take a few minutes to import in but they all have worked. Today I was working on one of these sequences and exported a 2.3 gig clipboard out of xlights. In the scheme of things this was a relatively small clipboard.  Everytime  I tried to import it into 5.3.2 I got an out of memory error. Tried several times with no success. On another computer I reverted back to 5.2.4 in imported in that same clipboard just fine.

I know this workflow if probably unique to me but thought I would pass along my findings.

    A few things to note:

    3) Editing your preview is enough to cause all sequences that use that preview to be updated when your show plays. No need to go back and resave all of the sequences if you are just updating a channel in the preview.

Wow that is awesome news. All i can say was this was a fantastic update. Great job!

  11. I never know what universe/channel numbers my props are going to use until I get most everything setup in the yard. Last year I entered all the correct universe/channel info into the preview and then created the playback files for all my sequences. Will I do the same thing this year but all I will have to do is save the .Loredit file?
