    Preview Problems

Thank you, Matt - I think the S5 is going to be a great way to program our lights and thanks for putting it together. Of course, it's essential to get the import function to work correctly because OMG I can't do all that effects programming all over again! Bob

    Preview Problems

After installing and trying S5 (018 version), I imported a perfectly working S4 LMS file as a first step. This sequence has a both traditional Sequencer and Pixel Editor data / props. In S4, there are no problems - the preview has no errors, the song plays and the props light up in the preview window the way that they are supposed to. In S5, a great many of those same preview props are lost when I apply the same preview that is used in S4. Also - the dialog box that asks for me to initially assign a preview says I am using the "imported" preview found in the sequence... not right - it should allow me to specify the preview to use. I have attached images of what's going on. When the preview plays, all I get in the playback window is some scattered colored squares everywhere. Please help!

Hi Matt, thanks, I do get that dialog box about loading PE props to grid view PE but I still don't get any props or data. See:

Thanks - it imported all the SE traditional stuff fine - just not the PE RGB props and data.

    Preview Problems

Thank you so much for helping, Bob! I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and re-input everything but my intensity data will still be lost (unavailable) and I would need to somehow copy it from my S4-built sequences and paste it in the correct rows. Can't see a way to do that because S4 and S5 can't co-exist on the same machine. Maybe create an additional virtual machine on the same PC? You would think that the migration to S5 would have considered migrating the previews as a first step. Anyone else encounter this? Thanks again! Bob
  7. I am just now beginning to toy around with S5 - love it. However, I am not getting any effects playback against my house background in the window for that purpose. Song plays, video plays (I use MP4's) but nothing else. Ideas? Thanks! Bob Shiloh Road Lights, Odessa, TX
  8. I have done up a windmill prop for this Christmas. The top fan has 10 blades. I have placed 5 smart RGB lay-flat nodes on each blade AND 1 node between the blades so I wouldn't have to cut the wire. So there are a total of 6 smart RGB pixels per blade. 10 x 6 = 60 pixels or 180 channels. I've chosen a spike design in my PE preview to model this prop and I've also assigned it to one unique DMX universe. My problem is that not all of the nodes are lighting up. I am using "bars" effect. It does light each blade to simulate left or right blade motion but not all the nodes light up on each blade. It certainly can't be hardware - it's all one string with every 6th node covered in black tape. Any ideas here? Thanks - Bob

Spoke Prop Definition for a Windmill Fan

Thank you Matt - I am proud of this 10-foot tall heavy windmill also - the 3 sides and all of the crossbars have dumb RGB on them, working great - I will rewire the bulbs on the blades - thank you so much for your speedy reply - Bob

    Arch Design in PE (preview)

I have selected prop type arch in VI and also in PE (when modifying my preview). Please tell me what values I should place in the "# of sections" and "Exact # of RGB nodes per section" blocks. I am using a 30/10 RGB strip from HolidayCoro, 5 meters, so 150 LEDs total.Does that mean I have 50 "pixels"? So should I input 10 section of 5 RGB nodes each? Thanks - Bob

Doing a Smart RGB chase in PE

Much as I search the effects and the forums, I can't find how to do a simple chase for smart RGB in PE. I have a windmill on which the top fan has about 10 blades. I am putting smart RGB pixels (separate 8mm nodes connected in a string) on the fan blades, probably 3 to a blade. I need for 3 to fire on a single fan blade, then fire the next 3 on the next fan blade, etc. so as to give the impression that the fan is turning. Can you help?

  15. This has to work by tomorrow, ha! I've got an E1.31 network set up - laptop is the driver. The smart controllers (AlphaPix 4's and 16's) work great, firing all the smart strip for fascia outlining as expected in Universes 2 through 27. I have reserved and assigned Universe 1 addresses for my LOR stuff (LED light string props and dumb RGB), starting with of course, Universe 1, channel 1. I will use only 4 LOR AC controllers for tomorrow's show, along with 3 LOR CMB24D's. Questions: 1. Do I use a feed from one of the E1.31 network switches to go first into the LOR AC controllers (with a cross-over cable)? Then LOR AC #1 to #2 to #3 to #4 (Daisy chain)? 2. Can I also just take a feed from a network switch into any or all LOR CMB24D's? I will set the jumpers for DMX mode... or do they need to be daisy-chained in channel order configuration? 3. Because everything will be in high-speed Ethernet mode, does the hookup order matter? For example, I've got 8 RGB floods, each with its own dumb controller inside the flood, set to a unique Universe 1 address. They are fed by CAT5 cable. Thanks! Bob
  16. Yes, try setting up your legacy stuff all as Universe 1 - map all channels, even the ones you may not eventually use so that the correspondence is perfect. Good luck! BOb
  17. I am running my LOR AC controllers in DMX mode and sequencer 4.2.6 Pro. When I have set a particular channel (Device Type: DMX Universe) and group of cells to 50% intensity (DMX intensity tool at 128), there is no visible effect on the light prop. This is important to my show because I have several props that talk and sing - I'd like to dim the ones that are not talking at a particular moment. Half intensity should be a very visible difference in dimming - no?

Intensity not working in DMX mode...

Gentlemen, thank you much - I will give it a try at 64 level (25% intensity) Bob
  19. I have 8 LOR AC controllers this year - plus Alphapix's for the smart strip. Running the show from an inside laptop. PE working great - no issues with the smart stuff. Sequences are all DMX, channels assigned in order, controllers 1 to 8, even the unused ones (no load - nothing attached to that output). All dumb lights, dumb strip are on Universe 1, taken from the RS485 port of an AlphaPix, then daisy chained to the LOR AC controllers and the LOR CMB24Ds. Crossover cable used to 1st LOR AC controller. For the first time in several years, I am having issues with a couple of the LOR AC controllers - some channels here and there just not firing (appear to be not firing). When I use that same power cord attached to an AC power source to the prop's light string, i.e. "mouth open", etc. that string section lights fine. This tells me that the cord and the light strings are good. Tried changing the output to use another one. I will double check channel assignments to ensure that there are no collisions or unspecified channels that are somehow causing wrong channels to fire in DMX. I guess I'm kind of answering my own question but any other thoughts are welcome! Bob
  20. When LOR adopted Pixel Editor, did it also consider allowing for its standalone player to control the entire show? How about Raspberry PI? Is there any possibility of using my already-bought LOR G3MP3 player anymore? Or is it now headed to the back bench? Thanks! Bob

Pixel Editor & Standalone Show Players

Mike, I forgot to ask a detail: the G3MP3 has 2 outputs (CAT5 type). Does one of these then go to the LOR controllers while the other output goes to a network switch and then on to my non-LOR E1.31 based controllers?
  23. Hi Blackwolf - yes, that's exactly correct. I always keep a few dongles around just to test things out before putting them on the network but that's it. I like Holiday Coro's controllers because of the RS485 take-off feature. I have no desire to lose my LOR controllers because I make talking / singing light props made up of AC light strings that are controlled by them just fine. Good luck and make sure to consult Holiday Coro's documentation for the pin-outs and CAT 5 color-code hookups.
  24. Hi - I have 8 LOR controllers, 3 CMB24Ds, and a bunch of AlphaPix 4s and 16s. All are working nicely together. You can use the RS485 takeoffs on the AlphaPix controllers to eliminate the need for a USB dongle. In other words, run anything that requires low-speed, daisy-chaining such as dumb RGB floods, props that have dumb controllers (DC), etc. What's nice is that you can specify the DMX Universe in the AlphaPix setup. Start by assigning every channel in your sequences (even if unused) of your LOR AC controllers as DMX Universe 1, Channel x, etc. in order. Hook up the E1.31 signal from your laptop to your AlphaPix controller and assign the RS485 takeoff as Universe 1. Run that CAT5 (from the controller RS485 takeoff) to your first LOR AC controller or CMB24D. Use a crossover cable into the first AC LOR box, daisy-chain the rest and you're all set. Just remember also that the RS485 takeoffs on the AlphaPix controllers are signal only - you will need to provide power to your light loads in other ways, such as power injection over CAT5 - explained in the AlphaPix online documents. LOR can sense a DMX signal, so there's no need to flip any switches on any of them. You will need to change your channel configuration within your sequences though. For more info on this, see David Moore's detailed explanations on his Holiday Coro website. Bob
