  1. As per the new policy: I understand I will not share or sell this sequence. I understand adding it to my sequence or modifying it does not make it my work to share or sell May I please have a copy? Thanks - pdarrah@gmail.com (This should be the last one for a while! I'm finishing up some last touches for Halloween and getting started on Xmas. Thank you so very much.)

  3. As per the new policy: I understand I will not share or sell this sequence. I understand adding it to my sequence or modifying it does not make it my work to share or sell James - if you have something for Ghostbusters that I could put up on my 16x50 pixel trees, I would really appreciate a copy. Thanks - pdarrah@gmail.com

I understand adding it to my sequence or modifying it does not make it my work to share or sell Repeat post from above from yesterday before all this came up.... Hi JR - Do you know if James ever added any props to this one? I've tried searching and can only find your post. I would appreciate a copy of your faces, but was hoping to find the other version with some extra props. Thanks - PJD P.S. Just wanted to express my thanks to you and James - your sequences have vastly improved our Halloween show and I'm now starting in on setting up a better Xmas show.

  9. Hi JR - I think you are both being VERY nice about this. You have every right to be upset. As someone who loves your sequences, I'm thrilled you are gong to continue sharing the existing sequences. Another poster earlier today (I think in a different thread) stated how angry he felt on your behalf - I have to say that I totally agree with him. This has popped into my head while doing other stuff several times this evening, and I get angry again each time! Sometimes it seems like "common decency" just isn't as common as we would like it to be. I have a couple quick procedural questions: Do you have some boilerplate text for the statement that you want, or should users just copy what you stated above and modify to be in first person (eg. I will not sell or share your sequence and modifying or adding it to my own sequence does not give me the right to share or sell the sequence.) I think you are asking that all requests be sent via PM or email instead of in the forum threads? - if that is correct, do you want a message for each individual sequence or if someone is asking for more than 1, do you want that combined into a single request with a list? PJD
  10. This might not be as much work as you are thinking. I suspect most of us don't have that many controllers - We have 4 faces using Unit 1 and 2 (both for Halloween and Xmas - Monsters/Trees). I changed all our existing sequences to use YOUR channels this year and I have certainly gotten the impression that many others here have also done that. It might be enough to have a couple versions for the most common Unit numbers (probably 1, 2 or 3?) and just tell people if they want to use your sequences then they need to re-arrange and use your channels for the mouth positions. I think this would be a little less flexible for users, but that is probably a small price to pay to be able to get this kind of help. Because I have 4 faces, I have edited some of the sequences I received - For example, O Fortuna was for 2 faces, I copied face 1 to 3 and 2 to 4 so I had 2 singing back and forth and all 4 during the joint parts. I probably wouldn't be able to do that if it is locked down, but that is still WAY better than trying to sequence several new songs heading into a holiday. I'm not sure that this would work for the ones where James has added in other props. The odds of us all having similar props on the same channels is unlikely. I have copied the channels for his 16x50- matrix to my 16x50 pixel tree and I think there were tombstones that I copied over to my 8 single channel pumpkins. Do these have the same problems with people stealing them, or is it pretty much the faces that are the big problem? pjd
  11. Wow - it is so disheartening when a few crummy jerks mess things up. This is such a fantastic board and I've been really enjoying interacting with so many of you. The sequences I received from JR and James have been amazingly helpful and its so sad that they have been pushed to this point. I'm personally bummed since I just asked for a few more just this morning, but totally understand where they are coming from with this decision. Their sequences have massively improved my Halloween show. I sincerely doubt that my Xmas show will reach the same level without their expertise. Not sure if it would help, but a different forum I am on (not lights related at all) has a rule where someone has to be an "active poster" to receive shared items. The term is a little loose, but posting simple posts like "I agree" or in this case "please send me a copy" doesn't count. A poster has to actually interact and participate on the forum. Of course, it would probably be a pain to have to look everyone up to see if they are active or not.... and, of course, that doesn't guarantee that they are a decent person!

  20. In S5 you will need to have a "Preview" - there isn't any reason it has to look at all like your actually display. It just needs to include all your props. The "Preview" is where you tell S5 which channels/universes are for which items in your show. You can also have multiple Previews if you want. I currently have a basic Halloween and a Halloween+PixelTrees that I am using for my current show. Your 32 trees could be shown in your "Preview" as just a row of 32 trees and that would be sufficient. If they are traditional lights with 1 channel per tree, they could be in your "Preview" as just a single "bulb" that is connected to the correct controller & channel. But you do have to have a "Preview" created since that is where the software connects channels to items. PJD
  21. I agree that it is probably too late to change to S5 when you are already used to using the older software. I'm relatively new to the software (my husband used to do all of it, but last year he handed everything "software" over to me and he is focused just on the hardware end of our display.) I looked at both S4 and S5 and decided to just start with S5 since I was pretty much a clean slate going into this. I don't actually feel that S5 is more complex, it is just different and if you are used to the old software, you need a totally different mindset to get things setup with S5. We've been reduced to a sub-size show for the last couple of years as my husband has been building an insane over 120ft retaining wall along the front of our property. With everything torn up and under construction, a full show just wasn't possible. He handed everything "software" to me a little too late for me to do much last year anyway - so we just ran his existing show (I think originally created in S3) on the parts of the show we were able to put up. This gave me basically all year to figure out S5 - I haven't found the concepts difficult, but there is a lack of tutorial videos and such. I eventually sat down and read the entire help file (downloaded it to my e-reader)! I also ended up watching a number of older tutorials for S3 and S4 in order to learn about the basic sequencing interface - someone moving from an older version wouldn't have that issue - they just need to learn where the various functions are in the new layout and I think a few things may have been renamed. We have added 2 - 16x50 pixel trees this year. This hasn't really impacted our existing traditional setup at all. We are using DMX over E1.31 for the pixel trees with AlphaPix16 controllers (but I believe there are other options as well including ones by LOR). We have 5 or 6 CTB16PC controllers (I'm pretty sure we haven't used more than 4 in the past). I have 3 running the Halloween show right now (4 monster faces and a set of 16 pumpkins) on the LOR Network (black dongle that we have had for years and the ELL). The show PC uses it's wireless network for normal internet, everyday type stuff and its wired internet output is connected to a basic switch and then the CAT6 cables run from there to the pixel trees. The wireless and wired are setup as separate TCPIP networks so the traffic is completely separate. I had already created a preview for our traditional props and linking them to their controllers. I then copied that and added the pixel trees to the preview and when I want to sequence something for the trees, I just take a copy of one of our traditional sequences and change it to use the Preview with the pixel trees. I haven't bothered with SuperStar yet (I really want to walk well before I try running!) and have just been using the motion effects in the sequence editor for the trees. We do have the Pro version so we can do pixel stuff and we have a small SuperStar licence CCR-4 so I can start looking at it when I get to that stage. I'm assuming I will have to update that in the future, but for now I'm getting by just fine without SuperStar. My suggestion would be to run as much of your traditional show as you plan to keep this year and as soon as the new year starts, begin moving to S5 and deciding how you want to include pixels. I've been very happy with the DMX over E1.31 route so far. PJD
  22. Yes, we definitely plan to use power injection. We are testing this out using the gazebo - pixel icicles are pretty expensive and complicated. If we love them, we will move on to replacing the old LED icicles everywhere else - if they are more trouble than they are worth, then the gazebo will be the only place for them and everything else will get new, old-fashioned LED versions.
  23. Unfortunately, unless I buy a new controller I don't really have a choice. There will be 6 or 8 sets of icicles, 100 pixels each. The AlphaPix4 has 4 outputs and 1 of those is in use already. The only way to not pack pixels would be for each string to have its own output and I don't have that available. The icicles can be connected end to end (with power injection of course) so to the controller output, a group of 3 or 4 would just look like a single string with 300 or 400 pixels. I'm pretty sure the controller sees those as a continuous, pixel packed, set. If I use all 3 outputs that I have left, that would still be 2 strings of 100 on each output and I am still dealing with this issue. I definitely agree it would be easier not to do this - my pixel trees use AlphaPix16 with 16 strips of 50 pixels - no packing and easy to setup. I hadn't realized I could change the number of pixels in the universe with LOR (as suggested by ebrown1972 above) , but I'm still not sure how that will work with the actual physical controller and pixels. If the controller is counting and assigning up to 512, then I need to also. If the controller stops at 510, then I need to do that. We've just sent off an email to HC to see if they can tell us how it works....
  24. I'm not sure if this is the correct section for this question, but I'm not sure where would be better. Some background: We have a gazebo that we are adding either 6 or 8 sets of HC Icicle lights (number just depends on whether we decide to do the back side panels or not). Each set of lights has 100 pixels and it is basically just a 20x5 matrix. --1---6---11---16---- and so on 2 7 12 17 3 8 13 18 4 9 14 19 5 10 15 20 The plan is to string either 3 or 4 sets of icicles together for each side of the gazebo. There would then be 2 of these sets, one for each side and each using an output from the controller. I think I can put these into the Preview with each individual string as an 20x5 Matrix-vertical-rectangle (or quad - not quite sure which is better) item and assigning the proper DMX channels for each. In real life, they would physically be a single "Item", but within the preview I think it is easiest to consider them 3 or 4 separate items and group them together for sequencing. We have an Alphapix4 controller. Each output can control up to 4 DMX Universes. Here is where my brain is starting to implode. When configuring the controller, I need to enter the DMX Start Universe, DMX Start Channel, and the Pixel Count. If I have 3 or 4 strands connected together, I assume that the output sees it as a continuous string with 300 or 400 pixels. The 1st string is easy. I'll be starting at Universe 33 (1-32 are used by 2 pixel trees) and the 1st string will use channels 1-300. The 2nd string, I assume, then would pick up at Universe 33-Channel 301. This is where I'm confused - what happens at the end of Universe 33? Supposedly, it auto-assigns universes & channels to the pixels in order, and that makes sense up to the 70th pixel on the 2nd string - it would be assigned channels 508, 509 & 510, BUT what happens at the next pixel. Will the 71st pixel of the 2nd string be assigned Universe 33, Channels 511 & 512 and then Universe 34, Channel 1? If so, I can't imaging any way that I can assign that in the LOR preview to the matrix! OR does the controller skip those last 2 channels and the 71st pixel of the 2nd string is assigned Universe 34, channels 1,2, 3. Obviously, this would be far easier to work with. Does anyone have any idea how this works? PJD
  25. In S5, the Preview is where you setup your props and controllers. Each item in the Preview has its controller and channel assigned there. LOR has some videos with very basic information on creating the Preview. Your sequences then use your Preview. You can have 1 Preview that you use with all your sequences. Then if you need to change something in the Preview, it will be there for all the sequences.
