  1. We're talking Christmas lights here. There is no overkill!

  5. Thank you to all who offered suggestions. I tried HD but they had variety packs. But it did give me an opportunity to identify the size. With that I found these on Amazon - Size 10 Silicon O Rings. Came in today and fit nice and snug.

  6. I would. One reason is that if you eBay these you are selling retail. A newbie is going to appreciate that they come already updated and they now have one less thing to learn on Day 1. An experienced Lighter may have more confidence in buying from you because 1) if they take a firmware update and still work they are likely in good shape and 2) if you were update them you probably aren't "Bob's selling junk I found at the Pawn or storage locker on eBay" and are more credible in your item description. First thing I do when I buy used controllers is firmware updates so obviously I know ho

  9. Another newbie wanting to jump on the bandwagon of animation. First let me start by saying y'all are AMAZING!!!! Next, when are the absolute best times to buy from here? I see Summer but like around what months and dates? Now, onto my MAIN question, I currently have all LED lights, everything ran off 1 - 20amp circuit with one set of outlets on each side of the house. I have upgraded the electrical just because and now have an additional set of outlets on the non-garage side on its own 20amp circuit. I've added a 4 bank of outlets on the garage side with its own 20amp circuit. I installed

  10. Are you using an add-on video card or the one built in to the mother board? I had a problem like that on the refurb computer I bought that exceeds what's needed to sequence and run shows except for the on-board video driver. I couldn't even install S5. I was having the same issues in not being able to update the onboard video driver. So I bought a cheap video add on card ($25) and installed it. I haven't had any problems since, and now I CAN update the drivers on the add-on card if I need to. Just a thought.

  12. If you want 48, tell the software 48 and it will ignore the last two. If you want you can just cut them off and seal the wires and use them as spares. I can't speak specifically to the Pixie but 100 12V pixels is typically the max before voltage drop begins to affect color. Length of the lead in also needs to be factored in. You can also get away with more distance and pixels if you keep the intensities down to about 30 percent. You should get away with 105 nodes on one port but the best thing is to test YOUR configuration and see if it looks good to you. Obviously if you want 105 y

  14. I love these things, I have been using them for about six years and have about a thousand of them. I have never used pvc pipe in them but I use the top clip for my C9 pixabulbs on all my roof caps on ridges. Easy to put on and take off and they stay put even in the wind.

  15. I have always had a Pirates of the Caribbean sequence in my display. In fact, I've created several versions throughout the years. Soon to be another one using Hans Zimmer's Live in Prague Pirates of the Caribbean Medley. It is a long medley so I'm only sequencing the last approximately four minutes of the song. I'm planning on adding two new matrices to my display this year and this is my first attempt at sequencing them.

  16. Oh, it absolutely does. Different manufacturers, and even different batches from the same manufacturer will often have color differences. That is the reason that a standard recommendation is that you always buy all the pixels for a prop and spares, at the same time.

  17. Finally, you can zoom and position the playback window. This is a great addition and really makes the preview window much more useful with larger displays. And much more versatile than the existing zoomed prop playback. Now i can sequence a specific prop and see it without having to keep the whole preview on the screen. Combined with the existing dimming option, i found that i can zoom right into the area required and then darken the background image and i get a good view at what it is doing. Plus you can move and resize and move the window while playing with scroll bars or the mouse.

  19. I'm sure there's a solution in LOR, but I noticed that other vendors offer controllers for motors they sell. Case in point, Monster Guts has several prop controllers and a media trigger. If I were so inclined, is there a way to connect these other devices to an LOR controller, or would I need to use whatever compatible LOR solutions exist for the device? One of these days, I'd like to have one of those scarecrows on a pole spin slowly, but I have yet to find a way to design it.

  21. A friend of mine is a welder and he said a cheap propane welding torch should be sufficient to re-weld the deer, just make sure you get it only hot enough to melt the welding material and flow it over the broken joint. Too hot and you could melt the metal of the deer as it's not as strong. You're right about it being almost the same as tomato cage wire. And as for holding them down, if they have any steel on their hooves that touch the ground or have loops on them, find some plastic tent stakes that'll fit and use those to hold them in place. When I had those type deer in my displa

  22. I haven't had any burn out from turning them on and off rapidly in a sequence, that is what they do. However I do know to never dim / fade them. JR
    1 point
  23. Yes, strobes should ONLY be either on or off - NEVER dimmed. I don't specifically know about turning them on and off rapidly, but normally you would not need to do that. I would guess that like an air conditioner, once you turn them off, you should wait some amount of time - although I would think that anything more than 10 seconds would be fine.

  24. OK, this is getting way off the original topic. About 30 years ago I was renting the house on the left side of the photo. It's a little hard to tell, but the next door neighbor's yard is three to four feet higher, and the property line was at the top of the slope between the lots. We had a sprinkler line just on our side of the property line. Because the dirt eroded, the corner of the sprinkler line ended up exposed. Entertainingly, that pipe is still visible whenever Google Street View took this photo (the red arrow). The neighbor's gardener kept hitting the exposed PVC pipe and breakin

  25. I may have discovered an issue with 5.5 concerning crosshatched rows and Channel Level in a new blank musical sequence. If I create a new Musical sequence using my current Preview everything loads correctly and there are no errors. My Grid View at this point only contains Show All Group, so I Import my current Grid View to get my groups back. This Grid View imports fine into my existing sequences in S5 5.5 The Groups all import properly EXCEPT all my Channel Level props are crosshatched in both Show All and the Grid Groups, a lot of rows. If I right click on one of the item

I also understand the mere fact of making changes to the borrowed sequence and pasting it in to my sequence does not make it mine to share.

  27. Sorry, I do not have any videos of the class. I had one and one was errored through Zoom but never recovered. The one I had was deleted due to the legnth and a recent computer issue I needed the space. A lot of off topic convo but that is what this hobby is all about. Every Saturday there will be a class unless otherwise posted. You are welcome to join any time. JR

  29. Yes, you are behind If you are trying to sequence all 3200 pixels in SuperStar, you would need to 80 CCR (4,000 pixels, or 12,000 channels) level SuperStar license. That is what I have. Note that if you upgrade to S5, you only need a SuperStar license for the maximum number of channels that you will sequence at one time. In other words, if you have two 800 pixel trees, a 1,000 pixel matrix, and a 600 pixel tree (totals your 3,200 pixels), and IF you will be sequencing each as separate "Insert SuperStar Effects", you could get away with only a 24 CCR (1,200 pixel) level license. 30. This Saturday , 5 Sept at 6:00 PM Central Time will be the next class. I will send the info sometime Friday that way if more sign up I can consolidate the email. I am trying to figure out the issue with the link every now and then i get a link error and members have to contact me. Its an easy but irritating problem to fix. The classes have not been recorded since the second class and both of those are no longer available. JR

  31. Most likely your audio file is using variable bit rate rather than constant bit rate. Solution is to run the file through an audio editing program and save it in CBR format. Most of us use Audacity for that purpose.

  34. Agreed that honesty is the best (and only) policy and never said otherwise. I don't think cleaning an item and updating it is deceitful in any way, but I can see where you are coming from: a Gen1 controller listed as updated firmware could confuse someone to buy it thinking it had been "updated to Gen3." So yes, probably just wiser to avoid any misunderstandings and not u[date them. Especially since LOR recommends not updating without support's direction. Since the SOP at work is to keep updated firmware on everything for security reasons, I hadn't thought of that.

  35. Look in an Auto Parts store or HD/ Lowes etc. In the plumbing dept. Normally you will have to buy an assorted pack. You may find some in the bins where all of the odds and ends are. Since I have an auto parts store about 2 miles away I purchased a few I lost there. JR

  36. I posted about this in a different thread last night titled "New Version 5.5" but I just want to make sure this is its own focused topic since the other thread has gone multiple directions. Error report is that when a sequence gets played at 1/2 or 3/4 speed, all effects appear as shimmer effects even though the actual effect commands in the Sequencer remain unchanged. Normal and 2x speed are fine. Dropping back down to 5.4.2 temporarily since I sequence almost exclusively in 1/2 speed - looking forward to getting to use all of the new 5.5.0 features soon!

  37. I just updated to the 5.5.0 version and i do see all of the new changes as well as the strobing at 1/2 and 3/4 speed playback. I'm also having an issue with the grid view of the sequencer. it changes color as i scroll through a sequence and will change colors as i'm programming. very annoying. sometimes one color for all grids and sometimes multiple colors across the board. Is this a fix or is it me?

  38. Nice to be able to export from S5 to S4. This will allow me to start using S5 more often, though not until after this years holidays as far as sequencing. Will allow me to be able to sequence my faces and still share with all users. The main reason I didn’t switch completely to S5. Will have to at least test this very soon seeing how the vis for the LOR Singing Quartet started crashing or not working properly recently. Much welcome change, thanks Matt and team. I do have one question I didn’t find in the update article. Do any of those changes pertain to the Archi

  39. I love them, this will be my 11th year using them and I have a large area to cover so it is much easier to use them rather then regular string lights. Regular string lights have the lights spaced four inches apart and the string is maybe 15' long. Lawn lights have lights spaced six feet apart and the strings are like 300' long. I have the originals since it was so long ago but they now have some that morph and twinkle

  41. Pro is definitely NOT overkill, if you end up with a controller that requires an enhanced network, you're going to run into issues with RGB lighting, one of the biggest issues you may encounter is LAG TIME when your show is running, Enhanced keeps RGB flowing smoothly, not being able to do enhanced and ending up with some severe lag times {been there when I started with RGB} which will just ruin your show. Pro IS the only license level that supports the Enhanced Network and as Mr. P. and my friend J.R. says, best to go PRO and be done with it. You can do much more with a PRO license wher
