If you don't specify the location of the fixture, you are depending on SuperStar being able to guess what you intended. In phone conversations with Brian, he has flat out told me that it doesn't always do what you expect unless you specify the locations. In fact, I have seen situations where even with the locations specified, not quite getting what I expected. The other advantage of specifying the fixture location in addition to the prop is that it's far less likely to change somewhere down the road when you start making changes to the visualization.
