RGB- controller/node help!

I am new to the RGB world. I ordered a ready to run Alphapix 4 (12v) set up from Holidaycoro and 4 - 100pcs/set square DC12V addressable WS2811 led smart pixel node from Ray Wu. I have not connected to LOR yet and am just trying to run in test mode on the controller. I wired the pigtails from Ray Wu (since they didn't fit) and lights won't turn on. Any suggestions/feedback would be appreciated. I will include links below.

1 thing - be careful with wire colouring they sometimes get it wrong

look at the back of the 1st led and physically check which wire actually goes to the +12, Gnd and Data connections, then match that to the relevant alphapix outlets

for further reference here's HC's wiring chart http://www.holidaycoro.com/v/vspfiles/downloads/instruct1.pdf

Also check that you have the correct end of the string connected to the controller. Pixels have a input side and an output side as data can only flow in one direction through the string. If you look under the pixel at the circuit board there should be a small arrow showing which direction the data flows through the string.

As for the Alphapix, it has five buttons under the LCD screen. The first button from the left, the "M" button, press and hold a few seconds until the screen says Test Mode. Once in test mode each press of the + button puts it into a different pattern, 24 total. When finished press and hold the "M" button for a few seconds until the screen says Normal Mode.
