BrianBruderer
There is a new "Floating Windows" feature in SuperStar. It allows you to put the Sequencing Grid and the Visualization each in their own window. You can then move them and resize them to suit your needs. This is particularly useful when importing a visualization of a large display and the visualization gets very small. If you have two monitors, you can now move the visualization or sequencing grid over to your other monitor and that leaves lots of room for the sequencing grid or visualization in your main monitor. The feature is in the latest beta release: Released announcement here. To access this feature click on the "View" menu and select "Floating Windows". If you can test this feature I would appreciate any feedback you can give me.

sax
When I tried this in v 4.2.0 my previous superstar files did not work proper.Morphing using vis effects screen selected....instead of using the sequencing grid....did not work. The programming was in place, the morph was shown in the visualization window but the sequencing grid showed something that did not match. Random sequencing grid blocks where red with the morph arrow starting but not ending. I downgraded the software to continue programming for this season. But did this get looked at? k6ccc
I had tried it in an earlier version and it worked as far as I tested. I have two monitors on my sequencing computer and it's going to make me add more! I had planned on that anyway, but this is a great excuse... BrianBruderer
You are correct, in v4.2.0 the visEffects did not work in the floating windows. This has been fixed. They work in v4.2.2 which is the version that is out now.

sax
Hi Brian,Floating windows still does not work when I try to use Vis Effect morphs. Again, the morph shows up proper in the viseffects and the visualization window. But it does not work when played.
sax
BTW,It works proper if I do not go to floating windows.
BrianBruderer
I did the following: 1) went to my test computer which had v4.2.0 on it and did some visEffects in floating windows. I duplicated the visEffects bug, when I do a visEffect they just sort of flash all at once 2) I installed 4.2.2 on the test computer and did some visEffects in floating windows and they worked Perhaps we are not doing the exact same thing. I would like to see it for myself. Send me email to brian@superstarlights.com
sax
Sent files. I created in 4.1. Sax
BrianBruderer
I think I have duplicated a problem. Sometimes the visualization doesn't import properly and every time you play the sequence it gives the error "Channel x.x is assigned to more than one object in the visualization file"When you get this error the sequencing grid may have a different number of squares in some of the rows, and the sequence may not play the same. I think I have found the cause and have fixed it on my computer. But I have not recreated a problem relating to the floating windows.
BrianBruderer
I also found the following bug: 1) launch superstar with a visualization2) launch the morph dialog box3) click on the "VisEffects" checkbox4) uncheck "Shrink Visualizations for Vis Effects"5) apply a vis effect6) play it and it does not play properly I have fixed the above bug on my computer and the fix will be in the next release. But the above bug happens in v4.2.2 with or without floating windows.
sax
Ok. I was getting that error message too. To clear it I just imported my vis file again. But, my seq works fine without floating windows. Hit floating and the vis effects morphs stop working. Hopefully you received the files I emailed you.....
BrianBruderer
Yes, it turns out that if you import the vis file again the error goes away and it imports properly. In the next release it will import properly the first time. I received the files and I do not see a difference in how it plays in regular vs floating windows. But it would be easy for me to miss this difference. I would like to remote into your computer so I can see what you are seeing. Give me a call and we can set up a time to do that. steve synek
From what I am seeing, this floating windows is the only portion of the S4 software that has me considering an upgrade from S3. If i am not using the PE in any form, can I export a SS sequence from S4 on my sequencing computer and play it on my show computer running S3? I think not, but am looking for confirmation. BrianBruderer
If you export in the "legacy format" then S3 will play it just fine. If you export in the new "Intensity data" format then S3 will not even see the "intensity data" So yes, you can export an SS sequence from S4 and play it on a computer running S3 as long as you export in "legacy format"
steve synek
Thanks Brian. Now I just need to find out if my laptop can support a second monitor before I try the floating windows. Steve
