Tree Wizard

Can you think about adding a 90 degree tree to the wizard or Flat tree? I have a 180 tree but it does hide a little bit of it.

Jeff, do you need a 16 or 12 flat tree? Brian created both and are in the samples folder in the visualizer folder.

If I take it in the visualizer does it count as one or 16x84 for a total of 1344 fixtures?

Oh. I forgot yours was 84 pixels high. You can always use the wizard and open up the ends a bit. Shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

WOW Thanks Doug.... Me drawing it I am sure it would look like a Z tree.   Haha..

Now only if I could figure out how to force it to use overlapping universes in the visualizer in the middle of a string...I tried the pixel editor with no luck and of course the visualizer refuses due to the limitation of all strings starting on channel 1. For those using an E682 card, this isn't going to work. The SE has no issues of course and the lights do command Ok, just no way to see them in the visualizer unless creating a tree with more standard channels, adding a second tree group into the SE just so the visualizer will show it. I'm hearing that the new HolidayCoro card, will allow 16 different Universe assignments to each of the 16 outputs...hmmm

Look in the visualizer folder, and then in the samples folder and pull up either the 12 or 16 DMX_Packed visualizations. That will show how to make it happen with a 682. This was one of my concerns until I found these visualizations.

Now, if we could get the visualizer to somehow, span Universes on the same string automatically, that would be great. ie., when a string gets to 170 in a universe, it auto goes to the next Uni.

In S3, using CCRs instead of single bulbs for my icicles, when it ran out of channels (50 RGB) for a CCR, it would automatically start the new CCR, even in the middle of a string. It would be nice if the DMX draw wizard would do the same. I don't know if that's a major change or a minor one, I just know it would be an awesome one, for DMX.

wow...ok, the 16 string pixel, tool packed...looks like a possibility. Now I need to fire up the sequencing machine and see if I can configure the E682 to match! Thank You again!

Well, that was a bust. No way to configure the E682 card to match. It works in groups of 4 outputs, each must have the same pixel count for each group of 4. Each group of four can be configured individually but all four in each group must be the same.

That was the exact way my 682 was set up last year. I used all 16 outputs and had 50 pixels on each output. The 682 automatically does the universe numbers to match what's in the sample tree, assuming your first string is Universe 1.

My 682 is setup with beginning Universe1, 50 channels on each, but the ending universes overlap and no where close to the packed sample dmx tree. If the sample allowed us to change the quantity of pixels in each string, then maybe but it does not. The pixel counts for the sample tree, vary from 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 pixels per group. I'll try it and see what happens but for the moment, doesn't look compatible.

So, this won't work for you? The only thing I did was create a single string prop from the a and b strings.

Oh yeah, I also made it into a true 180 degree tree instead of a flat 2D tree.

It does work for the visualizer and modifying the SE sequence by dumping my setups and re-doing it to show 5 Universes of 510 channels each. So, with that assumption in place, does that mean for me to alter the E682 configuration to 4 groups of 170 channels each? I have the controller connected but not the lights. I have to replace four strings of LPD6803's because they were slightly different than the other 12, so waiting on the 4 to arrive so I can install and test again

I assume that I am not understanding what you're needing to do. For a 16 leg tree times 50 pixels per leg, my E682 is setup for each cluster, 4 strings in use, 50 pixels per output. The universes line up exactly as what the visualization is. I suppose I'm not understanding what exactly you're trying to accomplish.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do. I was trying to assign 150 pixels per universe but the channels overlapping into a partial universe, caused issues with the visualizer. I was able to get the lights to work in the previous configuration, just not the visualizer. Anyway, will try this new configuration and hope the lights will talk properly. Yes, 16 individual output connections to 16 individual strings of LPD6803 strips so the now set configuration is 170 channels on each group in the E682 card. Yes, its a waste of channels but its easier to connect and deal with plus I have a P12S card for everything else and I now buying a alphapix16 from Coro too. One way or another, this is going to work!

So, next dumb question, How can I extract or create the proper tree for the visualizer from the packed 16 string tree example? The regular tree wizard doesn't allow changes to the pixel count and trying to export and import one string at a time from the sample to a file, then back into the normal visualizer, creates havoc in alignment issues. What would be nice would be if the tree wizard tool, would walk us through it, allowing the lengths of strings in pixel counts, universes and so on. What would also be nice would be to export that sample, as a single prop in its entirety.

  • 3 months later...

Ok....what I'm I doing wrong here? I open the 16 DMX_Tool Packed in the viz sample folder. It was setup exactly as the e682. Starting with Univ 1, ch1 and continue to Univ ch360 not skipping any channels. My sequences is setup the same. The viz plays the LOR channels in the sequence, but wont play any of the DMX channels? Does the viz fixtures and sequence name need to match exact?
