LOR input connector wiring

I'm trying to hook up my motion sensor to my 1602, I can only occasionally get the red LED lit on the motion sensor. I've triple checked that it's wired properly. Only thing left to question is do I have too large of wire? 16AWG. I've tried multiple inputs on different 1602's with the same results and am now stumped....

Or another question, if the standalone sequence is loaded improperly will the 1602 still send power to the motion sensor.

And another question,,,is there such a thing as too small a sequence? Mines only 44kb, pretty small. Grasping at straws here......

Page 19 of the 1602 users manual ( http://www1.lightorama.com/PDF/LOR160xW_Man_Web.pdf ) shows how to hook-up the switch side of the motion sensor, AS FAR as power most sensors I know ( example the ones LOR sells) require 9 to 16 VDC for correct operation, HOWEVER the J0 header only supplies +5 or +9. (9 might be a bit shy for "Fort Mac" (BTW, is the cherry blossom festival still going there during the summer ?????))

 

If you are using the header for voltage to drive the electronics of the motion sensor, this COULD be your problem......

Have you followed the mounting and range instructions for the detector?  Is the cover properly closed?  You may try changing  the setting to 1 pulse.

thanks rayburn, I'll try that, just out of curiosity will something not work if the covers open? I see that there's some type of contact switch there but I had it working with cover off

The detector's lens is in the cover.  To get proper dispersal of the detector's array, the detector needs to be oriented correctly and the cover needs to be in place.  The contact switch is just a tamper switch and should have no effect on the operation of the detector.  The detector may also have a "warm-up" time before it starts to sense movement (a minute or two maybe).  It is PIR detector.  This means it needs to see a difference in temperature.  It will not see movement of something that is the same temperature as its surroundings.
